Raceday LIVE Preview
It's been just under three weeks since we last saw Diamond Days in action when finishing fourth at Lingfield on his chase debut and without the blunders he had at a couple of the fences, he no doubt would've finished in the top three having only been touched off by a short head.
This afternoon's contest is over 2m5½f which is a furlong and a half longer than Diamond Days' last race. We're hopeful that the extra distance can help unlock more improvement with Diamond Days as he's a half brother to Micronormous, who is a winner over 2m5f and has been campained up to three miles, so he's certainly bred to stay the longer trip.

Diamond Days in the pre-parade ring at Lingfield last month
Trainer Joe Tizzard provides a raceday update on Diamond Days ahead of today's race:
"Diamond Days ran a funny race on his chase debut at Lingfield last month, he jumped the bigger obstacles fine, but just lost his position mid race, before staying on well at the end and finishing pretty much alongside the second and third home.
He’s worked well at home since, and he’s definitely sharpened up for the Lingfield experience. We schooled him over fences last week, and that told us he was ready to run again, and having run well around Fontwell over hurdles two runs ago, we had no issues in coming back here on their chase course. Certainly whatever made him nearly run out when he ran here last year hasn’t been repeated.
He's stepping up in trip slightly from Lingfield, given the way he ran that day, doing his best work at the end, it makes sense to go a bit further here. Brendan [Powell] was suspended for that run, but he’s back on board here, and he obviously knows the horse well.
Lelant has won his last two so is clearly in good form, but we’re getting three pounds from him, while Footloose Man goes well at Fontwell and is only up two pounds for his last win there, so is respected. The form of Diamond Days’ Lingfield race hasn’t been given any boosts yet, but the horse that won his hurdles race here two runs ago has won a couple of times since, so that was a good effort for his seasonal reappearance.
Our horses continue to run really well, and he should be among the favourites for this race, and rightly so, I do think he will run a very big race."

Racing TV Analyst, Chris Dixon, breaks down this afternoon's contest at Fontwell and tells us how he thinks it might play out
Diamond Days is still searching for a first career win but looks up to winning a race soon and ran well when not beaten far at Lingfield last time. Strong through the line at Lingfield over 2m4f, Diamond Days ran like a horse who would be suited by further and his pedigree has plenty of stamina for longer distances, so a move up in distance here looks a big positive while testing ground conditions aren’t a concern.
Lelant is on a roll and will be the horse to beat as he searches for a hat-trick and still looks on a fair mark, though he may prefer ground less testing than he’ll get here. Mutley Crew won’t be bothered by the testing surface and has a chance on his best efforts, though will need to progress from his reappearance run here last time while Footloose Man, a last time out winner over course and distance is only 2lbs higher in the ratings and has a good record at the track.
Trainer and Jockey Statistics
Joe Tizzard has continued to feature in the winners' enclosure with four winners in the past five days. The dorset-based trainer has been in flying form over the last few weeks and so far this season he has a 37% strike-rate from his runners at Fontwell (11 ran, 3 won).
Brendan Powell's form ties hand in hand with Joe's given that he's his stable jockey, and Brendan has ridden three of Joe's latest four winners. In addition to those, he's also ridden winners for trainers David Drinkwater and Harry Derham in the past two weeks, so he's another man in red-hot form.
