Raceday LIVE Preview
Diamond Days heads to Hereford for just his second start in handicap company today following his very promising second place finish at Lingfield just over a month ago. It wasn't an easy task that day with the ground turning heavy after a downfall of rain, but he still ran with great credit under jockey Brendan Powell.
Off an opening mark of 90, Diamond Days had to carry 15lb more compared to the eventual winner who was rated 75, and there was plenty of support for the Harriet Dickin-trained Just Aidan who ended up going off 5/2 second favourite, so it was quite clear that he was noted to be well handicapped.
A timely form boost came just a few days ago too, with Just Aidan winning once again, this time at Wincanton, so if Diamond Days can take another step forward, then fingers crossed he can go close.
WATCH: 'There's plenty to come, we're really pleased with him'

A key detail to note is that Diamond Days will be stepping up in distance today by a further three and a half furlongs, but that's something that Joe and Brendan hope should bring out more improvement in our five-year-old gelding seeing as he has plenty of stamina in his pedigree.
We're set to face 11 rivals in today's contest, and Jack Tudor will take the reins in what looks a positive jockey booking from trainer Joe Tizzard.
Raceday Message from Joe
'We had Diamond Days entered at Wincanton on Thursday as well as today's Hereford race, and having spoken to Brendan [Powell], we felt he would be better off stepping up in trip, while better going at Hereford should also suit him, so that’s why we've come here.
He has come out of his Lingfield race well. That was over two miles on heavy ground, and he jumped OK out of that ground, but as I say, he should be even more fluent on this better surface.
My feeling at the time was that we had just run into one at Lingfield, and that view was backed up when the winner [Just Aidan] won well at Wincanton this week, so that’s a nice form boost for us.
With Brendan and Freddie [Gingell] needed at Sandown, we’ve booked Jack Tudor to ride. Jack is top class and Diamond is a straightforward ride, so I’m hoping the pair can give the club a big day.'

Diamond Days showed very little in a couple of bumper starts and three runs over hurdles but looked a different proposition when switched to a handicap at Lingfield last time. A second place finish behind Just Aidan, who franked the form with a follow up win off a 7lbs higher mark earlier this week, was a huge improvement on his previous efforts and suggests there’s races to be won off his current mark. There’s still room for improvement in his jumping which was far from fluent at times and if that part of his game comes together, and better ground may help, then he could find a few lengths on that alone. A step up in trip also offers hope for progress given the stamina in his pedigree so Diamond Days should be competitive.
It’s not an easy opening however, as for a basement grade handicap hurdle the race features more in-form horses than would be the norm for a race of this nature.
With the short-priced favourite Lyle View now being a non-runner, the other of interest is Tracking Treasure as he switches to handicap company for the first time. His qualifying runs haven’t been without promise, especially a third place at Ludlow on his penultimate start when not beaten far despite being caught too far back, and he looks like one who’ll be suited by a step up in trip so appeals as a likely improver.
