Raceday LIVE Preview
Diamond Days heads back to Lingfield today where he finished second on his penultimate start last season to make his chase debut. The decision to send him over fences came off the back of his reappearance run at Fontwell where he finished an encouraging third from the field of ten in a handicap hurdle.
The club's five-year-old put on plenty of size during his extended summer break and it has been long in the mind of trainer Joe Tizzard that he would improve for a fence, and those thoughts were further reinforced after his performance 11 days ago. He jumped with exuberance all the way around, putting plenty of distance between himself and some of the flights he faced, and so with that evidence we're hopeful can continue on an upward curve on his next start.
After the race at Fontwell, jockey Ben Jones suggested that his future would be over fences, with his thoughts very much echoing those of Joe Tizzard's regarding his action and scope. Joe had already put Diamond Days through plenty of schooling at home over fences during the preparation for his return over hurdles, and with that first run now under his belt, he should be A1 for his chase debut.

Diamond Days has mainly competed around the two mile mark so far in his career, with one effort coming over 2m3½f on his final start of last season. Today at Lingfield he'll step back up in trip to 2m4f, and the thoughts from the Tizzard team is that this should suit him better and allow him to utilise his stamina to better effect.
A field of five head to post at Lingfield this afternoon, with Diamond Days one of four horses lining up with no experience of chasing. The sole runner who has ran over fences before, Getaway King, won at the fifth time of asking over fences in his first start of the year and stable debut for trainer Fergal O'Brien. Off of a rating of 90, one pound lower than Diamond Days, he could prove to be the main danger. Jorah, for the in-form Skelton team, carries top weight in today's race, having only started his career in May of this year, with the highlight of his four races being a second place finish at Worcester in June on just his second start.
The chase course at Lingfield is set to be 'Good, Good to Soft in places' for today's contest, with no threat of rain in the forecast to change that description. This shouldn't faze Diamond Days too much, as he's run on a range of going conditions with credit over the course of the last year.

Racing TV Analyst, Chris Dixon, previews today's 13:45 contest at Lingfield
Diamond Days jumped much better than had been the case on his previous starts in handicap hurdle company when making his reappearance at Fontwell 11 days ago and that more proficient display of jumping resulted in something of a return to form. That hopefully gives him something to build on at Lingfield on Tuesday as he switches to fences for the first time whilst also taking a step up in trip. Bred to stay 2m4f+, this will be the longest distance he’s tackled so far and there’s every chance that brings about some improvement, while there’s no reason to think he won’t take to chasing on pedigree so there’s a few positives heading into the run.
Getaway King has plenty of chasing experience and heads into the race following a win at Fontwell on what was his first start for the stable. There could easily be more to come from him and he looks a significant player, while Jorah has been a bit disappointing in two handicap runs so far but could be better for a switch to fences and his stable are in great form. King Of Highways also comes from a stable going well and is another possible improver on his handicap and chasing debut having shown glimmers of ability whilst qualifying for a mark.
Trainer and Jockey Statistics
Joe Tizzard might be the most in-form trainer in the country right now, with 11 wins in the last fortnight. All five of his runners over the weekend scored, including three at Cheltenham (two on Sunday's card) before landing an across the card double between Plumpton and Exeter yesterday. Today marks Joe's first trip to Lingfield of the new season, as he looks to keep up his rock solid form at the Surrey track, where he's had five career winners from 22 runners.
Freddie Gingell has been a beneficiary of Joe Tizzard's electric from this, scoring three times for the Dorset trainer in the last two weeks, including two over the weekend. His other victory in that time period came for Paul Nicholls at Ludlow, where Treasure Planet ran out an emphatic 18 length winner. Similar to Joe, Freddie hasn't been to Lingfield so far this season, but has scored four times from nine rides there, and will be looking to hit a 50% strike-rate at the track with a win on Diamond Days today.
