Sweet Katarina is returning to the track at Ascot, following her recent debut, for the 1m EBF Maiden Fillies' Stakes (Class 2) at 15:05 today!

Sweet Katarina is back in action this afternoon as she makes her second racecourse appearance in the 15:05 EBF Maiden Fillies' Stakes at Ascot.

Our two-year-old made her debut over seven furlongs at Kempton last month where she found herself further back than ideal after being caught out by the early pace. However, she stuck to her task and did her best work in the closing stages which gave Chris Grassick and the team plenty to build on. Sweet Katarina steps up to a mile for the first time this afternoon with Chris hopeful that the extra furlong will give her more time to find her rhythm and get into the race. Reflecting on her debut, Chris said: “She got left behind the last day and did all her best work at the end. Hopefully the extra furlong should allow her to get into the race.”

Today also provides Sweet Katarina with her first experience on turf as the team continue to learn more about her with every run.

What is Sweet Katarina up against?

It looks a strong Class 2 maiden on paper with a mixture of experienced fillies and newcomers lining up over the mile.

Andrew Balding's Clarity sets the standard among those with previous racecourse experience. She has finished in the first five on each of her three starts so far and arrives at Ascot on the back of a second-place finish last time out. James Fanshawe's Just Scarlet also showed promise when finishing fourth on her racecourse debut whilst Sunset Script, trained by Tom Ward, has one previous run under her belt.

Much of the field remains an unknown quantity with several newcomers making their racecourse debuts. Amongst them are Claudette for John and Thady Gosden, with William Buick booked to ride, Comrade Alexi for Ed Walker and Tom Marquand and Divide And Conquer, for Ralph Beckett.

Sweet Katarina is facing a test on her second start but today's race is also another important step in her development.

Her trainer Chris Grassick said:

“It looks a very hot race but it's very important she gets out and gets the experience on the turf now. She has arrived safely at Ascot and travelled fantastically. She is an absolute dream to do everything with and loves being around people. The ground is probably a little on the fast side of good but it should be lovely for her first run on turf. We’ve stepped her up by an extra furlong today to give her a little more time to get into the race and she has definitely come on from her debut at Kempton. We’re looking forward to seeing her stretch her legs and hopefully finish strongly up the hill.”

Lewis Edmunds takes the ride aboard Sweet Katarina who breaks from stall 10 and we're hopeful that she can get into a good rhythm before finishing strongly.

W. Muir & C. Grassick have saddled 14 winners and amassed more than £205,000 in prize money so far this season. The team head into Ascot in good form too with 67% of their runners performing to form over the past fortnight.

Lewis Edmunds has enjoyed a productive season in the saddle with 57 winners from 537 rides at an 11% strike rate and more than £670,000 in prize money so far in 2026. He has also recorded 59 seconds and 68 thirds with 183 of his rides finishing in the first three.
