Raceday LIVE Preview

It's raceday for our lovely Sweet Katarina and we're absolutely delighted to see our young filly back in action this afternoon as she takes an exciting step forward in her racing career! Our two-year-old daughter of Sergei Prokofiev heads to Bath for the 15:47 Nursery Handicap, a Class 5 race over one mile, where she'll make her eagerly anticipated handicap debut for trainers William Muir and Chris Grassick.

Sweet Katarina has given us plenty to smile about during her first three racecourse appearances and there's every reason to look forward to seeing what she can produce now that she's entering handicap company. Her latest outing at Nottingham was particularly encouraging. Taking on some talented opposition, she showed plenty of enthusiasm and natural speed, racing prominently before finishing a creditable fifth. Although she understandably tired towards the finish, there was real promise in the way she travelled and approached her work.

That performance earned her an opening handicap mark of 69 and today she'll carry 9st 3lb with Finley Marsh taking the reins. The pair will break from stall 13 in a field of 13 runners, with the hope that Sweet Katarina can put her experience to good use and take another positive step forward.

A competitive field awaits

There's some interesting opposition lining up this afternoon, including Agitator, trained by Oliver Cole and ridden by Benoit de la Sayette. Already a winner, the gelding arrives following a runner-up finish and looks one of the more experienced rivals our filly will encounter. Give Hand, representing Harry Charlton, heads the weights off a mark of 75. The colt has shown promise in his three previous appearances and could have more to offer now stepping into handicap company. Richard Hannon's High Calibre, partnered by Sean Levey, is another to consider. He has already demonstrated his ability to compete for the places and brings valuable racecourse experience into this afternoon's assignment.

There's also a familiar face among the opposition in Artemis Star, who represents the same William Muir and Chris Grassick yard as Sweet Katarina. Tom Marquand takes the ride on the colt, who makes his own handicap debut.

A new chapter for Sweet Katarina

With three educational runs behind her, today represents an opportunity for Sweet Katarina to begin putting everything she's learned into practice. Nursery handicaps allow two-year-olds to compete according to their official ratings and we're looking forward to seeing how our filly measures up against horses of a similar standard. The ground at Bath is currently described as good, although conditions will be worth monitoring following the forecast rain. We're hopeful she'll find the surface to her liking and can settle into a lovely rhythm under Finley Marsh.

Most importantly, we want to see our girl enjoying her racing, travelling sweetly and showing the same willingness and enthusiasm that have made her such a pleasure to follow. There's something particularly special about watching a young horse develop and Sweet Katarina is giving us plenty to look forwards to as she continues to find her feet.

We're wishing Sweet Katarina, Finley Marsh and everyone at the William Muir and Chris Grassick yard the very best of luck this afternoon. Come on, Sweet Katarina!
