It’s a very special day for the Coral Racing Club as Sweet Katarina makes her eagerly-awaited racecourse debut at Kempton this evening! Our two-year-old filly lines up in the 17:30 Fillies’ Novice Stakes, a Class 3 contest over seven furlongs on the Polytrack, with Kaiya Fraser in the saddle.

The first step in her racing journey!

Trained by William Muir and Chris Grassick, Sweet Katarina has been progressing nicely through her work at home and today represents the moment that everyone has been waiting for – the chance to see her put that education into practice on the racecourse.

A debut brings plenty of new experiences for a young horse and today will be as much about learning as it is racing. From travelling to the track and taking in the raceday atmosphere, to entering the stalls on the track and actually competing for the first time; there will be plenty for her to absorb!

The team have been pleased with the way she has approached her work and particularly with her attitude. Now comes the exciting part – seeing what she can do when the stalls open for real. Of course, Sweet Katarina isn't entirely unfamiliar to Coral Racing Club members. She is a half-sister to our very own Katalyst, who has given us some thrilling moments already this season. It has been a joy watching Katalyst grow in confidence with each run and now it is exciting to see Sweet Katarina begin that journey of her own.

An intriguing first assignment...

Sweet Katarina faces a mixture of fellow newcomers and fillies with valuable racecourse experience, making this an interesting first test. For our girl though, today is about taking that all-important first step. There are no big expectations here today – it will be good to just see her settle into the occasion, enjoy her racing and come home happy, having learned plenty from the experience.

There might be a few nerves when she heads down to the start but there will be an awful lot of excitement too. The homework is done. Now it’s time for Sweet Katarina to go racing!

Trainer and Jockey Statistics

William Muir and Chris Grassick have enjoyed a solid campaign from their Lambourn base so far this year. The team have saddled 12 winners from 140 runners in 2026, with 20 further runners making the frame. Their string also heads into today in good form, with 60% of their recent runners performing to form. They’ll be hoping Sweet Katarina can make an encouraging start to her racing career at Kempton this evening and give the team another reason to celebrate.

Kaiya Fraser takes the ride on Sweet Katarina this evening, having enjoyed a strong season in the saddle so far. Fraser has ridden 37 winners from 251 rides in 2026, giving him an impressive 15% strike rate for the season. He’ll be looking to put that experience to good use as Sweet Katarina takes her first steps onto the racecourse at Kempton this evening.
