Raceday LIVE Preview

Our two-year-old filly Sweet Katarina returns to action this afternoon, heading to Nottingham for the 15:08 EBF Maiden Fillies' Stakes, a Class 3 race over just over a mile. Trained by William Muir and Chris Grassick, Sweet Katarina will be ridden by David Probert and has been drawn in stall seven of the seven declared runners. Having made her debut at Kempton in August before gaining further valuable experience at Ascot earlier this month, she is continuing to learn her trade. Thursday's race provides a super opportunity to build on those first two appearances and take that all important step towards securing her opening handicap mark.

The Opposition

Sweet Katarina faces six rivals, including some promising newcomers and several fillies who already have racecourse experience. John and Thady Gosden's Thi Qar brings the strongest official rating into the race, having earned a mark of 84. Ridden by William Buick, she has finished runner-up on both career appearances and looks an interesting rival. Princess Lottie, trained by Philip McBride and ridden by Kevin Stott, is another with valuable experience. She arrives with an official rating of 73 and has shown enough in her previous outings to warrant respect. Andrew Balding saddles Empress Jingu, who has an official rating of 53 and will be ridden by Rob Hornby. Having already gained racecourse experience, she adds another dimension to Thursday's field.

The remaining three runners are all newcomers. Ralph Beckett introduces Avebury Ring, ridden by James Doyle, whilst Tom Ward sends out Bejewel, partnered by Sean Levey. James Fanshawe completes the field with Lavender Bay, who will have Daniel Muscutt aboard. With three newcomers representing established yards alongside more experienced rivals, Thursday's race should provide another useful test for Sweet Katarina.

Looking Ahead

Sweet Katarina has shown encouraging signs as she continues to develop and we're looking forwards to seeing what she can produce on her third visit to the track. Whilst Thursday's opposition presents a challenge, the priority is another positive experience for our lovely young filly as she continues her education. With her opening handicap mark now within reach, we're excited to see where the next stage of her racing career takes her. Most importantly, we'll be hoping she enjoys her afternoon and returns home happy and healthy!
