Greek Symphony returned to the all-weather at Kempton on Saturday, stepping up to a mile for the first time as she continued what has already been a busy and productive first season on the racecourse.

Partnered once again by Mason Paetel, our filly was quickly away from stall two and was sent forward from the outset, establishing herself at the head of the field and setting a strong tempo through the early stages.

She continued to lead turning for home but having done plenty of work at the front, Greek Symphony began to come under some pressure as the race developed. She was headed around two furlongs from home and was unable to respond to those coming from behind, eventually finishing fifth.

There was a feeling afterwards that, with hindsight, going quite so hard from the beginning may not have played to Greek Symphony’s strengths. Stepping up to a mile for the first time also gave the team another opportunity to learn more about our young filly and how best to ride her over the longer trip.

Magnesium came through to take the victory under Rossa Ryan, getting the better of Pequenita in a tight finish, with Woodhay Wayfarer and Forest Berry completing the first four. It was a hot little race with some talented and progressive fillies in opposition and just a length separating the first four home.

One disappointing afternoon shouldn't overshadow what has been a really encouraging start to Greek Symphony's career. She has already won at Lingfield and produced a string of consistent performances and at just two years old, there is still plenty more to learn about our lovely filly.

Saturday may not have produced the result we had hoped for but it did provide some useful answers. Greek Symphony remains a lovely young filly with plenty of racing ahead of her and the team can now take what they have learned at Kempton into wherever she heads next.
