Hey Day Baby takes her first steps towards her recovery at Jackdaws Castle – latest from Jonjo O'Neill

19 Nov 2023
When I last updated you all by video, I explained how Hey Day Baby had injured a tendon in one of her back legs, and that she was out in the field recovering.

We’ve now got her back in the yard, and she’s on the horsewalker, which is the first stage of building her fitness levels back up, without putting the leg under any undue strain.

We’ll keep her doing this throughout November, and at the end of the month we’ll assess the leg again, and all being well, we can then start to step her work back up, firstly cantering her, and then finally into faster work.

If all goes well, and it’s so far so good, we’re looking at late December, possibly into the early New Year before she’ll be back on the track, but she’s maturing all the time, so the break from racing is not necessarily a bad thing, and we’re very much looking forward to getting her going again.
