It’s a return to familiar territory for Katalyst in the 17:45 at Kempton on Monday, a Class 5 handicap over the same 1m3f course and distance, where everything came together for her last time out.

That success was a deserved breakthrough for our sassy three-year-old, who had previously shown plenty of promise including a close second at Nottingham and fourth at Windsor. Then came Kempton. Stepping up to 1m3f for the first time, everything just seemed to fall into place and when she was challenged late on, Katalyst dug deep and found that little bit extra to get her head in front.

Few people will have enjoyed that victory more than her trainer, Chris Grassick. He knows Katalyst incredibly well and his belief in her has never wavered, even when things haven’t quite gone her way. Chris has always beleived that she had more to give, so seeing her put everything together and get that first win on the board was a particularly special moment for him and all the team.

She returns to the same course and distance on Monday from a mark of 59, with Olivia Tubb taking the ride and claiming 5lb. With that first victory behind her and returning to conditions that clearly suit, we’re looking forwards to seeing what Katalyst can do next.

Can lightening strike twice? We certainly hope so!
