Katalyst is a three-year-old bay filly by A’Ali out of Katalea, a daughter of influential American sire Mr Greeley.
Her sire A’Ali was a seriously talented sprinter who made an immediate impression on the racecourse, winning the Norfolk Stakes at Royal Ascot as a two-year-old before adding further Group 2 victories in the Prix Robert Papin, Flying Childers Stakes and Sapphire Stakes. His speed and precocity make him an exciting young stallion and Katalyst is part of his first crop of runners.
There is plenty to like on the other side of Katalyst’s pedigree too. Her dam Katalea brings the influence of Mr Greeley, a top-class American sire whose bloodlines have enjoyed considerable success on both sides of the Atlantic. Katalyst is also a maternal half-sister to fellow Coral Racing Club filly Sweet Katarina, giving members an added family connection to follow within the club.
Katalyst is certainly not short of personality. Full of character and sass, she can be tricky and temperamental and is a filly who very much likes things her own way. That strong personality is a huge part of Katalyst’s charm. She knows exactly what she likes, has definite opinions on what she doesn’t and Chris and the team have learned that sometimes the easiest way with Katalyst is to let her think it was all her idea in the first place.
Chris Grassick has always believed in Katalyst and the pair have developed a particularly special relationship. Chris knows her quirks, understands when to ask a question and when it might be wiser to negotiate with her instead. That understanding has been particularly important in teaching Katalyst to settle and conserve her natural enthusiasm rather than wanting to do everything at once.
Katalyst began her racing career as a two-year-old and continued to progress with experience before getting her head in front for the first time at Kempton in September 2026. That first victory was a particularly satisfying moment for everyone involved with a filly who has never lacked ability but has occasionally insisted on doing things on her own terms.
With that first win now on the board, Katalyst remains every inch her own woman: talented, opinionated and packed with personality. There is rarely a dull moment with Katalyst around and we wouldn’t have her any other way.
