Katalyst shows bundles of improvement on her second start and Rockstar Icon collects minor prize money at Brighton | Raceday Highlights
We kicked things off at a blustery Brighton where there was a late morning inspection due to high winds, however, racing swiftly got underway after it was given the green light.
Rockstar Icon was making just his fourth appearance of the year as he lined up against five rivals, three of which had previous experience at the undulating track. Kieran O'Neill was booked to ride our four-year-old for the first time who we know very well given the superb year he's had onboard Coral Racing Club stablemate, Aspire To Glory.
The pair broke well from stall four, but it was the heavily backed Tenbob Tommy who took the field along through the opening stages. As they began to come down the hill, Rockstar Icon was travelling well under Kieran and looked to be a big threat, however, it was the George Boughey-trained Kranjcar who sneaked up the inside and soon shot a couple of lengths clear.
The progressive four-year-old wasn't for catching in the end, but Rockstar Icon stuck to his task well in behind and actually made some very late progress inside the final half a furlong, eventually coming home just two lengths behind the winner in fourth place.

We caught up with trainer Oliver Cole after the race and this is what he had to say:
"I’m a lot happier with that run. It’s the first time in a while I’ve seen him finish a race properly. He went there in good form, and Kieren said to me afterwards that either seven furlongs back on the all-weather or back up to a mile would suit. He felt that when the pressure came on the horse he downed tools a bit, but then picked up again on the rising ground. He suggested we try him in cheekpieces.
I feel we’re nearly there with him now — once he wins one and gets his confidence, there could be a couple more in him."
It's fair to say it hasn't taken Oliver long to find Rockstar Icon another suitable opportunity, as he entered him yesterday for a race at Kempton next Wednesday on the 24th. Click here to check out our Owner for the Day competition for your chance to head to Kempton as one of his owners!
Katalyst shows bundles of improvement on her second start at Kempton
Next up was our two-year-old filly, Katalyst, who prepared to make just her second start since joining the Coral Racing Club earlier this year with trainer Chris Grassick.
Following a difficult debut at Chepstow last month, Chris was hopeful of seeing a much improved performance and that's exactly what Katalyst delivered. She broke promptly from the gates and was soon sent to the head of the field under jockey Lewis Edmunds. The pair remained prominent throughout much of the race, and as they turned for home, Katalyst was travelling as well as any.
When the tempo began to pick up, it was the Godolphin filly, Dancing Flower, who showed the most impressive turn of foot to soon put a couple of lengths between her and the rest. Katalyst showed plenty of determination under a drive from Lewis and to her credit, she battled on all the way to the finish line.
In the end she came home in fifth place, which was a good result given the competition she was up against, but most importantly her overall behaviour and attitude before and during the race was what we were most pleased about.

We also got the chance to speak to jockey Lewis Edmunds after Monday's race, and he too was full of positives for Katalyst's performance. Watch the interview below to find out what he had to say.

Keep an eye out on the Coral Racing Club for the next update on Katalyst when hopefully we'll get to find out where she could be heading for her third run for the club.
