Chris Grassick outlines his plans for Katalyst as her opening handicap mark is revealed
The handicappers have been very fair with us, given the calibre of horses that she raced well against at Kempton two starts ago. I was slightly concerned that if they took a dim view of that run that we could have been slammed with a very high mark in the 70s, but thankfully they've been reasonable.
I'm quite pleased with the mark as it means that we can run in 0-70 rated contests going forward, where there should be some good prize money up for grabs. I'm not afraid to run her in the GBB B/C/D novice races as she's improving all the time and she will benefit from the experience with her still only having the three runs under her belt.
We have plenty of options available to us and I do believe that we can win with her before the end of the year. I'm aiming for a restricted maiden at Wolverhampton on November 3rd, mainly because we can avoid previous winners, such as the types we came up against in the novice races before. There is another novice race at Southwell on October 30th, but preference is certainly for the restricted maiden at this point in time.
If a 0-70 for fillies comes up in the meantime then we could deviate from that plan and go down that route, but for now I think we're going to target the aforementioned restricted race that should suit Katalyst down to the ground.
