Phoenix Of Dreams rounds up a busy few months with another podium finish as Katalyst makes her long awaited return | Raceday Highlights
First up was Phoenix Of Dreams in the card closing 17:42 Class 5 Handicap over 7f at Southwell. Oisin Orr, making his first start wearing the Coral Racing Club colours, dropped Phoenix Of Dreams into the rear of the field as they left the gates at the start of the race. The pair made their move on the far side rail as the runners made their way around the bend, and our five-year-old began to make headway past his rivals.
As they made their way into the final furlong, the eventual winner, Receipt, began to pull away from the four runners in behind and Phoenix Of Dreams just didn't quite have enough left in the tank to go past Shamacid and had to settle for a solid third, scoring each of his lucky Owners for the Day a share of £784.

Trainer Sean Quinn got in touch yesterday and this is what he had to say about Phoenix's latest performance and what he's considering next for our five-year-old:
"Phoenix Of Dreams has come out of yesterday's contest at Southwell in good order and we're all relatively happy with the way he ran.
We do think a mile is worth a crack at some point in the near future. However, there isn't a great deal of all-weather racing coming up for him in the next six to eight weeks and we're due quite a dry period which is going to result in a lot of the turf tracks running on firmer than ideal ground for Phoenix Of Dreams.
With that in mind, we think he might be best served right now by spending three or four weeks in a paddock as we wait for some late summer/early autumn showers to come into play. Given the fact that he's run with great frequency since the end of last year, we think he'd appreciate a mid-season break for that reason also.
We noticed that Phoenix Of Dreams also got a little bit upset in the stalls, an observation that was also brought up by Oisin Orr who was in the saddle. This could mean that he's just thinking about things a little bit too much, so it might be prudent to take our foot off the gas a touch in the next few weeks."

Katalyst was up next, as she ran in the Class 6 Handicap over a mile in the final race on the Lingfield card at 19:50. Our three-year-old was making her first start of the year, and just her second in handicap company, so it was likely going to be a tough task for her, made even tougher by the presence of heavy favourite, Wild Thoughts, who ended up going off at an SP of 2/9.
She started the race well, breaking into stride early as jockey Billy Loughnane, who was also making his first appearance onboard a Coral Racing Club runner, tried to get her tucked in having come from the widest stall of all in six. Ultimately, he was unsuccessful and Katalyst was stuck wide on the course as they hurtled down the back straight. Turning for home, Billy Loughnane began to get to work on Katalyst, who still retained a good position in the field, but unfortunately she didn't respond and her effort quickly began to peter out. When it became clear that she wasn't going to give any more, Billy eased her down and allowed her to get home in her own time.

We'll be back soon with an update on the future plans for both horses and their expected timeframes for getting back on the track, as the trainers plot their next move for two of our stable stars.
