Katalyst can't make an impression on her mile and a half debut | Raceday Highlights

05 Nov 2026

Katalyst was unable to make her mark at Kempton on Wednesday, finishing down the field in 12th position on her debut at a mile and a half.

Ryan Kavanagh attempted to ride Katalyst to the front of the field from the get go, but had to settle for position in midfield not long after the contest started. Due to this, the jockey had to make more of an effort with Katalyst when other runners around her began to get going. She wasn't able to make any great progress throughout the field, but she didn't necessarily slow down towards the end of the contest either, rather just carried on at the one pace. She came home in her own time after falling away in the closing stages of the contest, finishing in 12th position of the fourteen runners.

We caught up with Chris Grassick this morning to see how Katalyst came out of last night's contest and he told us this:

"Katalyst is absolutely fine this morning, she didn't look like she had that much of a blow after the race. She still looks a million dollars, strong and powerful, but it does seem as though she's keeping something held back.

Hopefully we'll see a better version of her again next time and fingers crossed her handicap mark will drop a bit more after that run, which means we should be able to get her in a 0-55 where she'll certainly stand more of a chance.

If she gets it her own way, being able to break out from the front and take the lead, then we're confident we can get her back in the Winners Enclosure. We're going to keep running her as much as we can, she enjoys her racing and seems happy in her work both at home and on the course.

She's got a lovely temperament and loved the attention from the Owners we had in attendance last night, and hopefully it won't be too much longer before we see her back out on track again."
