Lady Mendoza in 'grand form' and gearing up towards return in February – latest from Rebecca Menzies
We had a deluge of rain a few weeks ago which flooded our gallops, and then the cold snap came caused it all to freeze over, so it’s been very hard work. The temperatures have risen the last couple of days, and we were able to get back out on the small round gallop this morning which was a big help.
Lady Mendoza is in grand form, and she cantered on the round gallop this morning and seemed to be moving really well. She’s been in good form at home for some time now, we just need a bit of drier weather so we can get her out on the track.
There’s a mares’ race at Southwell over three miles on February 2nd which we’ll definitely give her an entry for, and providing it’s not bottomless there, then I’d say that’s where we’ll go. The forecast over the next few weeks is looking better, and Southwell doesn’t tend to get too soft anyway, so that looks the right race for her.
We’ll keep her ticking over at home over the next few days, then we’ll step her work up next week and get her nice and fit for that Southwell race, but hopefully it will be a really winnable opportunity for her.
