Phoenix Of Dreams to be aimed at Newcastle next week as he goes in search of his second victory of the year

14 Apr 2026
Phoenix Of Dreams could be set to make his seventh appearance of the year next week, as the John & Sean Quinn team are keen to run him at Newcastle on Monday 20th.

In his six runs so far this year, Phoenix Of Dreams has been gradually improving with every race, and he franked those improvements with a victory at Newcastle two starts ago. The positive news is that following today's round of entries, he could be set to return there next week, in an attempt to back up that victory with another good performance before the team at Highfield Stables look to switch him to the turf throughout summer.

Following his last run, where he finished fourth back at Newcastle once more, the Quinns had entered him in a race at Catterick, but opted not to give him a go in that race, due to the potentially unsuitable ground conditions.

We caught up with Sean Quinn to find out more about the reasons for skipping the Catterick option and deciding to give him another all-weather run back at Newcastle before getting him back on turf.

"We had Phoenix Of Dreams in at Catterick last week just in case we saw some rain come in, or that the ground would be riding soft on the day. We have run him at Catterick before and we didn't think that he handled the track on firmer ground that day, and although that was in his younger days, we didn't want to risk sending him there on officially good ground in what would have been his first race back on turf since last year.

He's in great order at home and is certainly ready to go again, and there's a perfect race for him at Newcastle on Monday 20th April. It's a 0-70 over 7f back at Newcastle, and the last two times he's been there he's thoroughly enjoyed it, winning two starts ago and then a fourth place finish after suffering some horrible luck in running last time out.

We'll aim at that and then things should really start to kick into gear on the turf over the coming weeks as we move into May, where we'll look to get him back into a rhythm on the turf for the rest of the summer months."

Declarations will be on Saturday so keep an eye out for a confirmation video from the Coral Racing Club team on our website over the weekend for the latest update.
