Phoenix Of Dreams ruled out of Beverley and Hamilton contests after casting himself in his box
He's absolutely sound today, but there is a little bit of swelling around the hock that he's knocked and also a haematoma on his rear that's sore to touch and quite warm. He's obviously uncomfortable, but he's not in absolute agony and as a result we've had to pull him out of today's contest at Beverley, as well as his entry at Hamilton later in the week, in order for him to rest up and heal.
He's going to need a shot of bute to take the soreness and swelling out of the affected areas and the minimum amount of withdrawal time from the medicine is eight days, so we wouldn't be able to run him until that time has elapsed either. We'll give him a further couple of days on top of that where we'll be walking him, because he is fine with doing that just now and not exhibiting any pain whilst walking and then hopefully we'll be able to start cantering him again soon after that.
I'm frustrated with this situation due to the poor timing of it happening, but the silver lining is that it's an issue that will only take a couple of weeks out of him, as opposed to several months so it's not the end of the world.
Hopefully we'll see Phoenix Of Dreams back out again soon and we'll keep you updated as we move forward with him.
