Another solid run by Phoenix Of Dreams at Beverley as the Quinn team now await his opening handicap mark

21 Jun 2024
Phoenix Of Dreams
Phoenix Of Dreams made his final start before qualifying for a handicap mark on Tuesday, finishing second behind a potentially smart favourite trained by Ed Bethell.

Our three-year-old, trained by John and Sean Quinn, started the race in keen fashion and disputed the lead in the early stages before settling in behind the horse who eventually finished third, Rogue State.

Jason Hart made his move on our gelding with just over a furlong to go and hit the front, but began edging left inside the final furlong. He was eventually headed by the favourite, Coppull Hall Lane, who stayed on in powerful fashion to win by over two lengths to Phoenix Of Dreams in second, who couldn't quite stay with the Ed Bethell-trained filly.

Phoenix Of Dreams' trainer, Sean Quinn, provided this update the day following the race:

"I thought Phoenix Of Dreams ran another race full of encouragement on Tuesday at Beverley, but it was just so frustrating that he didn’t manage to get his head in front.

My gut feeling is that we’ve just bumped into one there, and I think that winner will turn out to be a very good horse for the Ed Bethell team. Jason (Hart) said although he looked keen during the race, he was actually fairly relaxed, but he just didn’t handle coming down the hill around the bend, but he found his footing again once he get on an even keel, so hopefully he is growing up and maturing.

I’m delighted to report that he’s come out of the race absolutely fine, and we’ll now get a handicap mark for him next Tuesday, so we’ll see what the handicapper makes of him and go from there. He’s ran some good races in defeat, so I’m expecting a mark in the high 70’s, but you can never quite predict these things.

Once we have that mark, we can make a plan from there and look through the programme to find a suitable race, so I’m hopeful it won’t be long until we finally see Phoenix Of Dreams in the winners’ enclosure."
