Rockstar Icon made his sixth start of the year on Saturday at Wolverhampton, finishing third in a pleasing return to six furlongs.

Having been campaigned between seven furlongs and 1m½f for 12 of his 13 races before Saturday, Rockstar Icon made his return to six furlongs for the first time since his debut way back in May of 2023. The decision to drop him back in trip was made by trainer Oliver Cole as a result of Rockstar Icon starting his races over 7f this season in lightning quick fashion, before just fading in the final furlong of his last three runs. 

The race started in typical fashion for Rockstar Icon, with Kieran O'Neill bursting out of the stalls onboard him, before rousing him along for the first furlong as the pair tried to vie for an early lead. Rockstar Icon settled in third as the field headed for the bend behind Coast, who went out to an early two-length lead, and Lucky Man, who was posted around half a length in front of our four-year-old.

As the field turned for home, it looked as though Rockstar Icon was struggling to maintain the fast gallop from a prominent position, but he rallied in tenacious fashion to claw back two positions that he had lost, before being beaten into third by the fast finishing Imola who bounded down the far outside in the closing stages.

Rockstar Icon's third place finish still landed his 10 lucky owners for the day £1,280 in prize money, with each of them getting to take home their 10% split of £128.

Oliver reported back to us on Sunday morning that Rockstar Icon came out of the race in fine order, and so now it's a case of deciding whether he wants to give it another go at six furlongs or whether he'll take Kieran's advice of stepping him back up to seven and perhaps returning to the scene of his first and only win for the club at Lingfield.
