Tidal Force made us all very proud as he took another big step forwards at the weekend!

There was plenty to get excited about from Tidal Force at Chester on Saturday, with our striking two-year-old showing another glimpse of the talent that we have always believed he possesses on just the second start of his career.

Only nine days on from his debut at Haydock, Tidal Force looked a different proposition from the moment the gates opened. He absolutely flew out of stall two, immediately putting himself into the race and showing so much natural sharpness that he found himself at the head of the field.

His jockey hadn't intended to make the running but after such a brilliant break, there was little sense in taking him backwards. Instead, Tidal Force was allowed to stride on and enjoy himself, travelling enthusiastically and taking the field along through the early stages.

Ultimately, Saturday presented our youngster with another completely new challenge. Chester's ground was described by his jockey as being particularly tacky and soft, after one of the driest summers in recent memory. At only two years old, Tidal Force will have experienced precious little like it during his short racing life. As the race began to heat up, that testing surface started to ask some serious questions and Tidal Force couldn't maintain his early momentum, tiring through the closing stages. The final result might not have been what we wanted but there was so much more to take from this than a finishing position.

This is a two-year-old having only his second race and already we saw a noticeably sharper, more switched-on horse than the one who made his debut at Haydock. He broke beautifully, showed genuine early speed and looked increasingly confident in what he was being asked to do. Perhaps most excitingly, his jockey came back feeling there should be more to come. He believes Tidal Force will appreciate getting back onto quicker ground and that nursery company could prove the ideal next chapter as we continue to learn exactly where his strengths lie.

Two races. Two very different experiences. Plenty learned.

Tidal Force is only just getting started and there is a real sense that we haven't seen the best of this exciting young horse yet.
