Tidal Force added another valuable piece to his racing education at Wolverhampton on Monday evening, running on the all-weather for the first time, on just his third career start.

It has been a busy few weeks for our big two-year-old, with trips to Haydock and Chester already under his belt before heading to Wolverhampton for another completely different challenge.

Drawn widest of the field in stall 12, jockey Robert Havlin steadied Tidal Force at the start and allowed him to find his feet towards the rear of the runners, as Aljoon took the field along from the front.

Aljoon proved tough to pass and stayed there all the way to the line, although Pigeon Pete made him work hard for it inside the final furlong with just a neck separating the pair at the finish. Al Wasl Spirit stayed on to take third with Reichenbach Falls close behind in fourth.

Tidal Force began to make some headway as they approached the final furlong but was never quite able to get himself into a position to challenge the leaders. He continued through the line to finish eighth, adding another valuable experience to what is still a very young racing career.

Whilst we would always love to see our boy right amongst the action at the finish, there is a much bigger picture for him at this stage. He is a big, rangy two-year-old who is still growing into his frame and we are discovering the racehorse and the personality within it. There is plenty of horse there and these early experiences are helping him to learn his trade, whilst giving Hugo Palmer and the team a better idea of what will ultimately bring out the best in him.

Three starts have already presented three very different challenges. He has raced at Haydock, around the unique turns of Chester and has now had his first taste of the all-weather at Wolverhampton. Each run has given us another little piece of the puzzle and we are enjoying getting to know this young chap as he begins to work things out for himself.

Most importantly, Hugo reported this morning that Tidal Force has “pulled out A1” following the race and is fit, sound and well back at Manor Farm. Results will come and there is still plenty for our young horse to learn but hearing that he has returned from the race in such good order is always the most important news for everyone at the Coral Racing Club.

With three runs now safely under his belt, we have learned a little more about Tidal Force each time he has stepped onto a racecourse. There is still so much more to discover about our big, rangy youngster and we can’t wait to be along for the journey as he continues learn and show us exactly what he’s made of!
