Raceday LIVE Preview

Aspire To Glory returns to the scene of his first ever victory, albeit over a furlong longer, at Kempton this evening, as he goes in search of his sixth career win donning the Coral Racing Club colours. This year has already been our gelding's most successful to date, as he's racked up three wins in 2025 already.

His last win came in a dead-heat at Chelmsford City two starts ago, where he put in a performance typical of himself having ran prominently with the leading group before pressing on gamely. He managed to rope in the long-time leader Nubough during the final furlong and just stuck his neck out at the right time to get himself up for the joint-first finish, claiming his lucky Owners for the Day £2,168 in the process.

He continued to impress at home following that run, and Alice Haynes put him back up in trip to a mile at Wolverhampton last time out. Aspire To Glory was a little more exuberant in the early stages of that race than he normally is and he pulled regular partner, Kieran O'Neill, to the front of the field a bit too soon and faded late into the race due to the energy he had expended at the beginning of the contest. He still, however, managed to get home in fourth, landing yet more prize money for his Owners for the Day in the process.

Aspire To Glory stays racing over a mile tonight at Kempton, as he looks for his first career win over this distance. Remarkably, despite scoring five times between 7f and 1m½f, he's never found success over tonight's distance before. We do know that he likes it around Kempton though, as he has won at the course before. There are similarities between that day and today, as he's been given a similarly wide draw in stall nine for tonight's contest and when he won here previously, Tommy Jakes brought him around the outside of the field when turning for home and the pair came with a wet sail on the stand side to romp home for a going away victory.

Tonight, Aspire To Glory is set to line up against nine rivals, including Bold Suitor who is the only course and distance winner in the field, although that victory came in 2020, before the horse spent over three years in Hong Kong. The Craig Benton-trained eight-year-old comes into the race having won over seven furlongs at Wolverhampton last time out, along with Just Typical who has scored twice in his last two races, including a win on the straight mile at Newcastle for trainer Ian Williams last time out. Midnight Ravens, Kurios George and Sweet Sister are the only three maidens in the field, although all three are relatively unexposed, with Kurios George making his handicap debut off a mark of 64 following the first three runs of his career.

The ground is set to be on the slower side of standard tonight at Kempton, following a slightly wet weekend in the UK, which matches the conditions he won with at Kempton in December of 2023.

Chris Dixon, Racing TV analyst, talks through Aspire To Glory's task at Kempton this evening

Aspire To Glory
raced too freely to get home when stepped back up in trip to the extended mile at Wolverhampton last time and also wasn’t helped by a wide draw. He still ran well in defeat to finish fourth and the form has been boosted by the third horse, River Alwen, winning since. Clearly still in decent form, there’s every reason to expect another good run from Aspire To Glory here as despite having a less than ideal draw in stall nine it looks as though he could end up adopting a decent early position.

Bold Suitor will be the likely pacesetter in the contest, who was a wide margin winner at Wolverhampton last time and his previous form at Dunstall Park worked out very well but the handicapper hasn’t missed him with a 9lbs rise for that latest romp with this race also representing a step up in grade.

Trainer and Jockey Statistics

Alice Haynes
has been in relatively quiet form recently, with no winners in the past fortnight from her 21 runners, however she has had four horses placed in that time period, including three runners-up. Unsurprisingly, Kempton is a track that Alice Haynes frequents given it's close proximity to her Newmarket base of operations and she's had ten career winners at the course from her 149 runners there, of which one has come from 20 horses she's sent there in 2025.

Kieran O'Neill
has been in similarly quiet form in the last two weeks, with no winners from eight rides in the last fortnight. He's on 109 winners for Alice Haynes in his career from over 1,000 runs, with nine of those coming this season. Kieran O'Neill is also one win away from his 50th career victory at Kempton, having scored his 49th there earlier this year.
