Raceday LIVE Preview

The Coral Racing Club's winning-most horse is back in action today, as he returns to the turf for the first time since August of 2024. In the time that's passed since, Aspire To Glory has had a mixed bag of results, winning four times, at three different courses, and coming home in second on two occasions on the all-weather. Although his last victory at Chelmsford only came four starts ago, almost a year has passed since that day, during which time he moved the short distance to Dylan Cunha's yard following the retirement of his former trainer, Alice Haynes.

In his three runs since swapping yards, he's been unable to make much of an impact, finishing in the last three home on every occasion. Dylan Cunha has opted to keep him running over a mile today, following his best finish of the year so far over the extended mile at Wolverhampton last time out, with the hope that a switch to turf might help to liven him up following his stint on the all-weather. He has won over a mile before, at Wolverhampton last February, so he has proven that he can perform over the distance, and his best performance to date on grass came over a mile at Ripon earlier in his career, when he was just a pound lower in the handicaps than he is today.

Aspire To Glory gets up to win in style at Chelmsford

Today's contest is represented by horses at both ends of the experience, and success, spectrums, highlighted by four race maiden, Aurelune, and a winner of nine races out of 100, Little Ted, lining up against each other. Little Ted is also the only course and distance winner in the field, with My Ambition the only winner over a mile other than Aspire To Glory in the field, and the three of them are the only former victors in the field, with the other six runners lining up without a success to their name. Palmarian is one of those maidens, and carries the top weight in the contest, despite having never won a race in twelve career starts.

Today's race is set to be run on good-to-firm ground, which shouldn't be too much of a problem for Aspire To Glory and his draw in stall six of twelve should be relatively helpful for him, as he's not stuck on the wide outside going towards the bend that comes quickly after the one mile starting point.

Racing TV Analyst, Chris Dixon, breaks down this evening's 17:05 at Leicester and gives us his opinion on how he thinks Aspire To Glory will fare

Aspire To Glory hasn’t shown a great deal in three starts since moving stables and has a lot to prove on recent form. Having ended his time with Alice Haynes with a win at Chelmsford in August, he’s only managed to beat four horses home across three races, so appears to be an out of form horse. With all of his career wins to date gained on the all-weather, he also needs to prove himself fully effective on turf. On the plus side he has dropped to an attractive mark and a 54 day break since his last run could mean he returns in better form than when last seen but he certainly needs to in order to be competitive. It looks to be a race that lacks any confirmed pace, so it could be a steadily run race so getting him to relax will be the first task for rider Ashley Lewis.

Little Ted raced prominently when just beaten at Newcastle last time and could be well positioned if adopting similar tactics. He’s a course and distance winner on a good mark so probably looks the one to beat whilst My Ambition should be considered following a short break after a disappointing run at Bath as his previous efforts suggest he can be competitive.

Trainer and Jockey Statistics

Dylan Cunha has been in good form recently, with two winners in the last fortnight. His record at Leicester is also solid, with four wins coming from 28 career runners at the East Midlands course, including one from six this year.

Promising apprentice Ashley Lewis is in the plate for Aspire To Glory tonight at Leicester. Ashley has been riding with plenty of confidence in recent weeks, enjoying an excellent spell in the saddle and will be looking to continue his impressive recent form. His valuable 5lb claim could prove a real asset also.
