Raceday LIVE Preview

Cave Article was last seen in a point-to-point race over three miles at Ballycrystal in Ireland, finishing second to the well respected, and favourite on the day, Leaky Cauldron. Since that day in October, he's moved to the UK and has settled in well with Christian Williams at his yard in Ogmore-by-sea.

The club's gelding is out of Court Cave and Marys Article, with the sire producing some exciting jumps horses in the past, including Cheltenham Festival winners Mister Whittaker, City Island and Willoughby Court, as well as one of this year's Arkle contenders, JPR One.

Prize money and Owners for the Day

Today's Class 4 contest is worth £7,700 in total, with the winner set to scoop £4,193.42 for their lucky owners.

2nd place: £1,931.93 | 3rd place: £965.58 | 4th place: £483.56

As part of the Owner for the Day competitions we launch here on the Coral Racing Club website when one of the club's horses has been entered in a race, each of the 10 lucky winners who get the chance to attend as an owner get to take home an equal 10% split of any prize money won.

Trainer and jockey form

It's been pleasing to see Christian Williams come back to form of late, winning twice from his last ten runners, including an impressive victory with William Ewart just three days ago at Southwell.

Promising young jockey Jack Tudor takes the reins on Cave Article for our gelding's debut. Most will probably recognise Jack's name from his heroics on Kitty's Light last season when the pair won the Eider Chase at Newcastle, and then went on to secure a convincing victory in the Coral Scottish Grand National.

In the last seven days Tudor, who has recently been riding mostly for David Pipe, has ridden three winners in nine rides, including a victory onboard Lady Balko in the last at Taunton yesterday.

Today's opposition

  • Leader In The Park is a strong favourite at the top of the market for the in-form team of Ben Pauling and Ben Jones. He won in his only point-to-point race before finishing second in his debut outing over hurdles.
  • Gentleman's Relish is the only horse in the race with winning form under rules, after claiming victory in his second racecourse appearance in a bumper at Newbury. He was pulled up in his hurdling debut on Boxing Day and returns to action today for Nicky Henderson and Nico de Boinville.
  • Grand Albert hasn't finished outside the top three in all four of his combined point-to-point and racecourse appearances. Brian Hughes partners him again today, having ridden him for both of his races under rules to date.
