Raceday LIVE Preview

Cave Article is a five-year-old gelded son of Court Cave and Marys Article, who was foaled on April 9th 2019. He made his debut in a point-to-point at Fairyhouse in April 2023, and although he was pulled up on that occasion, he left that effort well behind when finishing runner-up on his next start at Ballycrystal in October.

Cave Article's debut for the club didn't go as planned, with the weather taking a turn for the worse and the ground ending up bottomless at Doncaster on that day. Trainer Christian Williams said in his post-race update following that contest that "in hindsight, I probably should have pulled him out of the race".

The experience as a whole wasn't without any positives though, as the club's gelding still managed to get valuable race experience which will put him in better stead for today's contest.

The team at Ogmore Farm have been happy with the way he's been working at home recently following his debut run, and they hope to see a better performance on good or good-to-soft ground which should be the case today at Fakenham.

Raceday Update from Christian Williams

"We are hoping for a nice run from Cave Article today and a step in the right direction. He didn’t like the ground at Doncaster, but he won’t experience anything like that here at Fakenham, even if we do get some showers today.

Jack Tudor won’t be too hard on him early in the race just to give him a chance to relax. We will then be looking for him to finish his race off. He has shown signs of ability at home so I don’t think his Doncaster run was a reflection of him at all.

Good luck today."

Prize money and Owners for the Day

Today's Class 4 contest is worth £8,000 in total, with the winner set to scoop £4,356.80 for their lucky owners.

2nd place: £2,007.20 | 3rd place: £1,003.20 | 4th place: £502.40

As part of the Owner for the Day competitions we launch here on the Coral Racing Club website when one of the club's horses has been entered in a race, each of the 10 lucky winners who get the chance to attend as an owner get to take home an equal 10% split of any prize money won.

Trainer and jockey form

Christian Williams
has been in solid enough form in the last fortnight, scoring twice from his last ten runners. He sent two across the Severn to Taunton on Monday, winning a two mile chase with Tonto Foley and finishing second in a three mile chase with Always Busy.

Jack Tudor has been in electric form in the last two weeks, landing a double at Taunton at the end of February, before scoring at Lingfield at the start of March, and back at Taunton again this week. The young jockey swaps Cheltenham for Fakenham this afternoon, having teamed up with Christian Williams onboard Kitty's Light for a solid seventh place finish in a strongly run Ultima Chase.

Today's opposition

  • Bluegrass heads the early betting, after finishing third and second in his previous two contests. However, both of those runs were on soft ground at Huntingdon and the going is good at Fakenham this afternoon. Charlie Hammond takes the reins for the first time in today's card opener.
  • Rumoursareflying rallied to finish second last time out on heavy ground at Southwell, only finishing half a length behind the eventual winner. Alex Edwards is in the hot seat this afternoon for trainer Pam Sly.
  • Juan Bermudez and Sceptic are both making their national hunt debuts this afternoon, having both been trained by Andrew Balding in their careers on the flat. Juan Bermudez goes for trainer Dan Skelton, who is on fire right now with three winners at the Cheltenham Festival so far and Sceptic runs for Ian Williams.
