Raceday LIVE Preview

Greek Symphony is set to make her debut this evening, heading to Goodwood for the occasion in a valuable race worth over £10,000 to the winning horse. By Sergei Prokofiev and out of Chloris, she has some interesting relatives to consider when making her debut later today, including Indigo Dream, sired by Havana Grey, who has won once in his three seasons on the track and claimed over £60,000 in earnings to date. Royal Elysian is another winner that is a half-sister to Greek Symphony, and she also won once, after finishing second twice in her first two starts.

Eight horses line up at Goodwood this evening, of which half are making their debuts, including Greek Symphony. The other four are only making their second start, and of those runners, Rollthedicebaby comes into the race with the strongest form, having finished second in her first outing in a Class 2 contest over five furlongs here at Goodwood. Tallahassee Lassie also made her debut in a strong looking Class 2 contest, but finished down the field in sixth place in that race at Ascot last month. Sovereign Beach and the top weighted Bearly Blue make up those with experience, although neither were able to make much of an impact in slightly weaker competitions on their debuts.

The ground at Goodwood is set to be soft, which should tell us more about how our filly might get on with less than ideal ground, and with more rain in the forecast during the day, it's unlikely to get any firmer. It's very much set to be a learning experience for our two-year-old, one during which we'll be certain to come away from knowing more about Greek Symphony.

Racing TV Analyst, Chris Dixon, looks ahead to this evening's race at Goodwood and gives us his thoughts on how it might play out

Pedigree wise Greek Symphony doesn’t appeal as a star but very much looks the type who should be winning races so there’s plenty to look forward to ahead of her racecourse debut in a Restricted Novice at Goodwood. A relative of two winners, on pedigree alone my guess would be she could run to mid 70’s to low 80’s at some stage and encouragement can be taken from the idea that the standard of this race likely to be no better than mid 70’s. Lots of horses will improve plenty from first to second run so expecting a peak effort straight away is folly, but it is possible and the fact her stable are 2/6 with 2yo’s this season including a debut winner at Newbury on Thursday afternoon is encouraging. Less encouraging is the likelihood of her handling the prevailing soft ground conditions as both sides on her pedigree point to faster ground or AW being more suitable.

In terms of form standard that’s set by Rollthedicebaby who was second at this track behind the subsequent Listed runner up Armor Supreme and should be suited by the step up in trip to 6f. Tallahassee Lassie also has some experience but will need to progress from her Ascot debut while Gravastar and Amethyst Star both look of some interest on their first starts.

Trainer and Jockey Statistics

Oliver Cole has had two winners in the last fortnight, including a two-year-old winner yesterday. The trainer is yet to have a winner at Goodwood in seven attempts since taking over the license at Whatcombe, but will be hoping that Greek Symphony has a dream debut today.

Rob Hornby has been in solid form over the last two weeks picking up seven wins, including one at Yarmouth two days ago. Although this is the first time he's ridden for Oliver Cole by himself, the jockey has picked up three wins from 19 rides for the Whatcombe Operation when Oliver had a dual license with father, Paul.
