Raceday LIVE Preview

Greek Symphony has looked incredibly solid in her first two racecourse appearances, finishing third behind two slightly more experienced horses on debut at Goodwood before going one better and finishing second by a neck at Newbury last time out. For those exploits, she's been handed a very fair opening mark of 70 for today's Nursery Handicap, and could certainly continue to improve off of that weight.

Greek Symphony also switches to the all-weather for the first time this evening, as the belief has been that firmer than good ground isn't producing her best work. Although Oliver Cole and the team could have waited for some rain to arrive, given the form that Greek Symphony has shown in her first two starts, the team at Whatcombe Stables wanted to keep her active, therefore the all-weather was the best option.

Our two-year-old lines up in the smallest field she's come up against in today's race, with only four rivals to contend with. All of today's participants are making their handicap debut, with only the top two in the betting having won prior to arriving at Lingfield today. Crazy Cubana was successful over six furlongs at Nottingham on her debut, before finishing down the field in the Group 3 Albany Stakes at Royal Ascot last time out. The other previous winner in the field is Lord Ragnar, who battled to a short-head victory at Newcastle towards the end of last month. Similarly to Greek Symphony, the other two runners in the 17:10, Dei Gratia Regina and King Of Montenegro, both finished second on their last starts and arrive in Surrey looking for their first win.

Racing TV Analyst, Chris Dixon, previews this evening's race and gives us his opinion on who he thinks will run well

Greek Symphony looks a potential improver as she steps up in trip for her nursery debut at Lingfield this afternoon. In two starts so far Greek Symphony has shown clear promise, hitting the frame on both starts and shaping like a filly who can progress over this longer trip – something in keeping with the dam side of her pedigree that features plenty of middle distance stamina. An opening mark of 70 doesn’t look obviously lenient on bare form but should be workable enough, especially given the angle for improvement and the booking of a leading 5lbs claimer Mason Paetel who rode a winner for the stable last week and takes off a bit of weight.

Quite a few of the nurseries so far have been won by horses with previous winning form and Lord Ragnar should go well following a hard-fought success from an odds-on favourite at Newcastle while debut winner Crazy Cubana looked a decent prospect at Nottingham but was in too deep at Royal Ascot and should appreciate these calmer waters.

Trainer and Jockey Statistics

Oliver Cole is in great form currently, posting a strike rate of 30% over the last two weeks with winners coming at Ascot, Kempton and Windsor. Although he's only had one winner at Lingfield before, he has only had seven runners on the all-weather course, and will be hoping to add to that tally this evening.

Mason Paetel has been impressing recently, with two wins in the last fortnight coming at Yarmouth and Windsor. The talented young claimer will take off a valuable five pounds from Greek Symphony's weight tonight as he looks for just his third career win on the all-weather course at Lingfield.
