Raceday LIVE Preview

Katalyst made her long awaited debut last month, following some stalls difficulty in her intended debut in July. After that she was required to complete a stalls test, which she duly passed with flying colours. Although that was positive news for everyone involved, it did present further issues when she ran at Chepstow. The belief was that the extra training that she went through in order to ensure that she passed the stalls test, as well as the exam itself, imprinted in her mind and that she thought that her work was done following her breaking out of the stalls. The test, as well as the training, obviously required her to pull up far earlier than where the winning post is, so she almost eased herself down early into the race, calling jockey Lewis Edmunds into action to get her into a rhythm again.

Following the contest, trainer Chris Grassick had her back in full time training to ensure her fitness levels were growing and that she knew that her task wasn't over after a couple of furlongs of galloping. Signs have been encouraging at home and in his latest update, Chris Grassick told us that she's been improving everyday and has matured well over the last few weeks. Katalyst will be donning cheekpieces in today's contest, in order to keep her focussed and interested, which should help her keep up a strong gallop for the duration of the race.

Twelve runners go to post in today's race at Kempton, with as many as four of Katalyst's rivals making their racecourse debut. One of those debutants is Star Mirage for the Wathnan Racing team, who cost them a princely fee of 340,000 euros at the Tatts Ireland Breeze-Up sales in May. Flash Of Fire is the only runner in the field with a victory to her name, scoring over today's distance of seven furlongs on her debut at Doncaster last month with Oisin Murphy in the saddle, who rides again today. The powerful Godolphin operation are also represented today by Dancing Flower, who finished a strong third on debut at Newmarket in July.

The ground is set to be on the slow side of standard on Kempton's Polytrack surface this afternoon, and Katalyst has been drawn in stall 5, which should benefit her from an educational perspective.

Trainer and Jockey Statistics

William Muir and Chris Grassick
have only scored once, with Blue Jammin at Chepstow, in the last fortnight, but have had six of the other 13 runners they've sent out finish in the first three. The duo have a solid enough record at Kempton, with 13 winners coming from just over 100 runners at the course and have landed one victory there this season.

Lewis Edmunds heads to Kempton this evening in fair enough form and carrying a strike-rate of 13%, after winning four times onboard 31 horses, including a double on the all-weather at Wolverhampton last Sunday. He's ridden 31 career winners for the Muir & Grassick team, with six of those coming so far this year.
