Raceday LIVE Preview

Katalyst returns to familiar territory this evening, heading back to the same Kempton course and distance where all her hard work was rewarded with a thoroughly deserved first victory last time out.
That win felt particularly special, given everything Katalyst had put into earning it. Katalyst had been knocking on the door, showing us glimpses of what she was capable of and gradually learning more with every run. Her narrow second at Nottingham showed us just how close she was getting and even when things had not quite gone her way, she continued to strive forwards.

At Kempton last time it all came together. She travelled beautifully through the race and when she was asked to go and win it, she showed real determination, dug deep and did exactly that! After working so hard throughout the season, seeing her get her head in front was a lovely moment for everyone connected with her. There has always been plenty of affection for Katalyst at William Muir and Chris Grassick’s yard. Chris knows her particularly well and has never lost faith in her ability, allowing her all the time she needed to learn her job and develop both physically and mentally.

She returns this evening from a mark just 2lb higher than for that victory and once again has a light weight on her back, helped further by Olivia Tubb’s 5lb claim.

The opposition

Katalyst faces a stronger-looking field this evening and Sax Avoidance is one of the obvious dangers. She arrives in excellent form having won her last two handicaps, including over this course and distance, and is looking for a third consecutive victory. Extraterrestrial was runner-up behind Sax Avoidance at Kempton last time and finished close enough to suggest he should be competitive again. Sea Brave is less exposed than many of these and makes his handicap debut after twice finishing second in novice company. Stepping up in distance could bring further improvement from Richard Hughes’ gelding. Fahidi returns from a break for Andrew Balding while Lucky Luna steps up in trip after encountering some trouble on her latest start. Impossible Mission, St Hilda and Enamorus add further depth to a competitive race.

Katalyst has earned her place in this field and returns to Kempton as a proven course-and-distance winner with plenty in her favour. She looks stronger, sharper and full of confidence following that breakthrough success and arrives this evening as a fit, strong and established racehorse who knows exactly what is required of her.

This is another competitive assignment but Katalyst has already shown us that she has both the grit and pace to take her chance against rivals of this calibre.

Trainer and Jockey Statistics

William Muir and Chris Grassick have sent out 17 winners from 203 runners this season, with six of those victories coming from their three-year-olds on the all-weather. The yard’s three-year-old all-weather runners are operating at a 13% strike rate in 2026, which is a nice positive as Katalyst returns to Kempton tonight..

Olivia Tubb has ridden seven winners from 84 rides this season and her 5 lb claim will be a useful advantage aboard Katalyst this evening. She has already enjoyed success on both turf and the all-weather in 2026 and will be looking to add to that tally at Kempton tonight.
