Raceday LIVE Preview
Katalyst is back in action at Kempton on Wednesday evening and after showing more than a few glimpses of her ability this season, hopes are high that our three-year-old filly can put that experience to good use under the lights.
Her latest appearance came at Ffos Las where Katalyst was quickly into her stride and attacked the race with all the enthusiasm we have come to expect from her. She raced prominently from the outset but having poured plenty into those opening stages, there was understandably less left in reserve when the race began to unfold in earnest.
Wednesday could see a slightly different approach. Rather than allowing Katalyst to use all that natural enthusiasm from the moment the gates open, the plan will be to encourage her to settle into her rhythm and conserve some of that energy for later in the race. If she can travel comfortably and save something for the business end, it could give her the opportunity to finish her race with rather more firepower.
There is certainly reason to believe a big performance is waiting to emerge. Katalyst has already gone agonisingly close at Nottingham and has produced a number of encouraging efforts during her first season in handicaps. She has teased us with enough promise to suggest that everything could click into place sooner rather than later and another evening on the Polytrack gives her the chance to take that next step.
The Opposition
There is plenty of experience amongst Wednesday evening's opposition, with Birthday Angel and the ten-year-old Uzincso amongst the older horses in the field. Katalyst is also joined by several fellow three-year-olds, including Tinsel for Hughie Morrison, Goldfinder for Patrick Cummings, Minerality for Richard Newland and Brave New World for Ed Walker.
It promises to be another competitive assignment but Katalyst has already shown that she belongs in races of this nature. There has been a sense for a while now that her day is coming and after everything she has learned during a busy summer, perhaps Wednesday night at Kempton will be the evening when the pieces finally fall into place.
