Raceday LIVE Preview

Katalyst joined the Coral Racing Club in the spring of last year along with trainers William Muir & Chris Grassick, and in her debut season as a two-year-old she ran five times between 6f and 1m, with her best performance coming at Kempton in September when finishing behind some well regarded sorts.

From her debut to all the way through to her final start of the year, Katalyst showed that she still had plenty of learning to do, and although her performances weren't without promise, there's no doubt she'll continue to benefit from the more experience she gains on the track.

Trainer Chris Grassick has been pleased with what Katalyst has been showing in her work at home over the past six weeks as she's continued to build towards her return, but after 131 days off the track, she will no doubt come on plenty for the run.

Katalyst is set to face just five rivals later tonight and will be carrying joint top weight of 9st9lb in the 0-65 handicap. We're delighted to have the services of young superstar jockey, Billy Loughnane, in the saddle who will be making his first appearance in the Coral Racing Club silks. Billy will be coming to Lingfield fresh of the back of a win at Leicester on the 25th and will no doubt be hoping to find the winners' enclosure once more from his seven rides on the card.

Racing TV Analyst, Chris Dixon, gives us an exclusive preview on today's 19:50 at Lingfield

Katalyst didn’t look the most straightforward during her two-year-old campaign with a tendency to hang and flash her tail under pressure often holding her back. On the plus side, she did display some ability and the hope has to be that she returns as a more mature and professional performer.

Even if she does, it could be a stretch for her to get the better of Wild Thoughts who bolted up on her handicap debut at Redcar last week and is well-in under a 6lbs penalty. He beat a well-backed and likely well-handicapped horse that day while the performance was supported by a good time which suggests he has a lot in hand and will be very hard to beat if in the same form.

Trainer and Jockey Statistics

William Muir & Chris Grassick will be hoping that Katalyst can provide an upturn in form for the team at Linkslade Stables as they've not had much luck so far this year with just two winners from 29 runners. One of those victories did however come at Lingfield so that is a potential interesting factor to note.

Billy Loughnane heads to Lingfield today in search of his 62nd winner of the year having already racked up over £450,000 in winnings from 291 rides. The talented jockey who hails from Worcestershire has only ridden eight times before for the Muir & Grassick team, with those rides yielding one win, one second, and two third-place finishes.
