Katalyst heads to Windsor for the first time in her career this evening, in the Class 6 Handicap over 1m2f in the card closing 20:30 contest.

Katalyst heads to Windsor less than a week after putting in her best performance to date at Nottingham, a race in which she just narrowly missed out on her debut victory having been beaten by only a short head. It was an impressive run in what was her first time stepping up in trip to a mile and a furlong, a change which she appeared to benefit from when staying on incredibly well late in the contest, at a point during the race in which she would normally begin to drop off from her rivals. Chris Grassick was incredibly pleased by the run, and has opted to keep her on the track without a long break, as the Lambourn based team look to keep her up to her form.

Katalyst lines up in a field of eight this evening, with only one, more familiar, rival carrying more weight. The horse in question is Takeitorleaveit, the Jonathan Portman runner who just got the better of Katalyst last time out. Today they meet on terms that favour our filly more, with a three pound swing in Katalyst's favour, as well as the six pound penalty that's been applied to Takeitorleaveit for his Nottingham victory. Windsor specialist, My Old Mate, also lines up today having won over a mile at this very course last time out exactly a month ago. The only other previous winner in the field is Time To Sparkle, who was victorious on the all-weather at Wolverhampton back in March over the extended mile. Although there are no other rivals in the field with prior victories today, bottom weight Give Me Sun has been knocking at the door in recent times, finishing third in her last two starts, including over today's distance in her last appearance.
The going is set to be good to firm at Windsor tonight, which should pose no issues for Katalyst given how she ran on a quick surface last week. She's been drawn in stall four, which means that Ryan Kavanagh, who rode her perfectly last time out, will need to be alert as they break in order to take up a favourable position, which we know Katalyst benefits from greatly.

Racing TV Analyst, Chris Dixon, gives us his thoughts on Katalyst's chances at Kempton this evening, and who he thinks might be involved at the finish
Consistency clearly isn’t a strong suit for Katalyst as evidenced by her out of the blue return to form at Nottingham last week. Beaten just a short head into a good second to an in-form Takeitorleaveit she massively improved on her most recent outings where she’d failed to beat a rival home and looked temperamental. Prior to that she’d also run well to finish 4th at Nottingham so her latest run isn’t a one off but trusting her to repeat it isn’t easy given her overall profile. If she does then she should be competitive and the way she ran on over 9f suggests this extra furlong in distance won’t be an issue and may even help.
Takeitorleaveit lines up in opposition again but in strict weights and measures shouldn’t confirm the form under a 6lbs penalty but it’s rarely that simple and unlike Katalyst he is extremely consistent and should run his race to be in the mix. Last time out course winner My Old Mate is the horse to beat given the ease of his victory last month though he has to prove himself at this longer trip.
Trainer and Jockey Statistics
William Muir & Chris Grassick have been relatively quiet recently, sending out just thirteen runners in the last fortnight and returning with one winner. On top of that, the duo have had five horses that have finished in the top three in the same time period, including Katalyst's agonising second last week at Nottingham. The pair have had five winners at Windsor in their career, but are yet to score at the track this year, only managing one second place finish there out of their nine runners.
Ryan Kavanagh retains the ride on Katalyst after his heroics onboard her last time out, and the young three pound claimer has been in fine form recently, posting a 22% strike-rate in the last two weeks with four winners from his 18 rides. Ryan has had one winner from 14 rides at Windsor in his fledgling career so far, but is searching for his first of 2026 at the course having had five rides there to date this year.
