Raceday LIVE Preview

Phoenix Of Dreams made his long awaited debut last month at Thirsk where he finished a promising 4th in a field of 12 runners. Phoenix Of Dreams joined the club as a two-year-old along with trainers John & Sean Quinn in July last year, but following a few minor set backs, the pair decided they'd rather allow him to strengthen up and focus on his three-year-old campaign.

The decision so far looks to have been a good one, and we're all hopeful that Phoenix Of Dreams can take another step forward today as he continues to gain more competitive experience on the racetrack.

The winner on that day, the Sir Michael Stoute-trained Never So Brave, justified heavy favouritism and stormed clear in the final stages of the race, with Phoenix Of Dreams finishing in a group of three that was well clear of the rest. Never So Brave has already given that run a huge form boost following his win in a valuable Class 2 Handicap at Chester's May Festival last week.

Phoenix Of Dreams' Owners for the Day

As winners of the Owner for the Day competition, 10 lucky Coral Racing Club members have been given the chance to enjoy an exclusive owners experience for Phoenix Of Dreams' run at Catterick this evening.

Each winner, along with a guest of their choosing, will receive free entry to Catterick Racecourse, including exclusive access to Owners & Trainers areas. They'll have the opportunity to meet Phoenix Of Dreams and the John and Sean Quinn team, plus get to head into the parade ring before the race begins to be amongst all the other owners, trainers and jockeys. And last but by no means least, each winner will get to take home an equal 10% split of any prize money won by Phoenix Of Dreams.

Today's Class 5 contest is worth £7,500 in total, with the winner set to scoop £4,050 for their lucky owners.

Trainer and jockey form

John and Sean Quinn
have had a quiet start to their season, only sending out 63 runners since January, including nine winners. In the last fortnight they've had one winner from 22 runs, which came at Thirsk nine days ago. They've had a further four horses place in the last two weeks, including Due For Luck who finished a very unlucky third at Chester under today's jockey, Jason Hart.

Jason Hart retains the ride on Phoenix Of Dreams having ridden him on debut. He's a jockey with plenty of experience riding for the Coral Racing Club having been onboard for four of Cast No Shadow runs, including his emphatic victory at Newcastle earlier in the year.

Jason has has ridden three winners in the last fortnight, with the most recent coming a week ago at Beverley. In the same timeframe he's placed on fourteen occasions, including two second place finishes at Newcastle yesterday evening. A big plus is that he knows the track at Thirsk very well having had 358 rides there so far in his career, so hopefully he can make that count today.

Racing Post | Spotlight Verdict

There is probably more to come from Monfrid (second choice) this year but preference is for PHOENIX OF DREAMS, who made a promising debut when fourth in what was probably a good Thirsk maiden last month.

Disclosure has stamina on her dam's side and ought to progress from her very encouraging 6f 2yo form at some stage this season. C&D winner Bubbles Wonky also has a significant role to play. [Chris Wilson]

Today's opposition

  • Monfrid looks to be a solid prospect for the William Haggas team, finishing second twice in his only two starts to date, including last time out where he was beaten by less than a length by The Ice Phoenix, also sired by Phoenix Of Spain. Cieren Fallon retains the ride having been onboard last time.

  • Bubbles Wonky runs for the King Power team, after winning convincingly over course and distance when last seen in October. The ground was heavy that day, and should prove to be much quicker this afternoon, which could work against him this afternoon. David Allen jumps back onboard for Tim Easterby today.

  • Disclosure steps up to seven furlongs for this first time this afternoon, having raced over six furlongs twice last season. In those contests he finished fourth and then second, before being put away for the winter in preparation for the new flat turf season. Billy Loughnane rides him again today.
