Raceday LIVE Preview

Since the turn of the year Phoenix Of Dreams has produced a couple of much improved performances on the track following a difficult end to 2025. The first of those came three starts ago at Wolverhampton, where he finished a solid third in a slightly tougher Class 5 contest. He followed that up with a fifth placed finish on the straight track of Newcastle, in what would be his last run over six furlongs, and although the finishing position might not suggest that he showed any improvement on the face of things, he wasn't far behind the winner amongst a group of five horses who were separated by under two lengths.

His first run over seven furlongs since September of 2024 followed that and he continued to show improvement with another third place finish, coming home just three lengths behind the winner. Jockey Jason Hart, Phoenix Of Dreams' regular rider, said after that last run that 'he's a winner waiting to happen' after he stormed home late to make up plenty of ground on the leaders to finish strongly. Despite the third place finish, the handicapper decided to drop Phoenix Of Dreams a pound in the ratings to 65, so he lines up in today's 0-65 contest as the highest rated horse in the race.

Seven of Phoenix Of Dreams' rivals today have victories over course and distance coming into today's contest, including Pallas Lord and Operation Gimcrack, with the latter winning here last time out. Saisons d'Or is another winner over track and trip, although that might be unsurprising given that he's the older statesman of the field at the age of 11. Ravenscraig Castle is another interesting runner in the field, who has regularly featured in Class 2 contests over hurdles and has a third place finish in the Melrose Handicap at the York Ebor Meeting to his name. Despite all of that and as already mentioned, Phoenix Of Dreams is the best rated horse in the race, and carries top weight as a result, whilst Call Glory, who has placed in his last two starts carries bottom weight.

Racing TV Analyst, Chris Dixon, goes over this evening's race at Newcastle and gives his opinion on how Phoenix Of Dreams might fare

Phoenix Of Dreams ran well behind a pair of in-form horses at Southwell last time and that form has since been boosted by the winner. A 1lb drop in the handicap for that run means he can take a slight ease in grade here into a 0-65 handicap, the lowest class event he’s encountered so far. With Front Gunner & Saisons D’Or in the lineup there should be a good pace to aim at which also looks a positive and he should have a sound each-way chance. The set up of the race should also suit Ey Up He’s A Star who is unexposed & potentially well-treated and could be the one to beat in an open race featuring plenty of in form horses.

Trainer and Jockey Statistics

John & Sean Quinn have been unsurprisingly quiet over the last fortnight, sending out just the four runners, with one finishing second at Southwell and an interesting third place finisher over hurdles at Sedgefield. Their record at Newcastle is relatively solid, with six winners at Gosforth Park, of which one has come from seven runners in 2026.

Jason Hart
has four wins in 30 rides to his name in the last fortnight, three of which have been at Newcastle, including one just last night. Those three wins at Gosforth Park take him to 141 for his career at the course and takes him to nine for the season as he looks to hit double digits onboard Phoenix Of Dreams this evening.
