Raceday LIVE Preview

It's been a productive year so far on the all-weather for Phoenix Of Dreams and tonight we will be hoping to see more of the same as he goes in search of his second win of 2026. Last time out he was quite unlucky after being stuck behind a wall of horses on the near side rail and when the gaps finally appeared, he finished with a flurry to come home in 4th place.

His mark of 67 remained unchanged after that effort, whereas the winner that day, Anthropologist, was raised 4lbs and that could make a difference this evening. We're drawn in stall 10 today which means jockey Jason Hart should certainly have an easier job of getting our five-year-old in a good position from early on (drawn stall 1 in his last run).

There are a staggering ten previous course and distance winners in today's field and that isn't including Phoenix Of Dreams, so there's no doubt it will be a competitive affair and Phoenix Of Dreams will have to be at his very best to come out on top.

Racing TV Analyst, Chris Dixon, previews Phoenix Of Dreams' chances in tonight's contest and looks at who is main rivals may be

The track at Newcastle clearly suits Phoenix Of Dreams very well with form figures of 3514 at the north east venue and he looks to continue his good run of form there this evening. A winner over course and distance last month, that form is looking solid and is backed up by a time that suggests he’s still well handicapped. Back form also points to him being on a good mark and though beaten into fourth here last time, he wasn’t helped by an uncharacteristic tardy start. Still 4th beaten two lengths at the line, he shaped as if he remains in good form so for all he has the winner that day, Anthropologist to reverse form with, he does have a chance of doing so on 4lbs better terms.

That said, Michael Herrington’s four-year-old was well on top having moved comfortably through the race and he does look the horse to beat in a race that sets up well for him tactically. Lord Capulet racked up a quick hat trick over course and distance in the early part of the year and is respected despite a below par run last time, while another course and distance winner Blazing Son is on a winning mark and is respected. Ziggy’s Condor is also attractively handicapped while both Criminal Shore and The Green Man will be suited by the run of the race and have claims in a wide-open race.
