Raceday LIVE Preview
Phoenix Of Dreams makes the short trip from Highfield Stables to Pontefract this afternoon for what will be just his fourth start of the year. It's been a stuttering campaign so far in 2025 due to a couple of minor setbacks, with matters also not being helped by the dry weather the UK has faced throughout the summer months with our four-year-old gelding preferring a surface with a little ease.
We last saw Phoenix Of Dreams in action on the 5th September when he finished 6th in a competitive big field handicap (14 ran) at Haydock. He was only beat by just over three lengths that day when stepping down to the minimum trip of five furlongs for the first time, and the Quinn team are hopeful that he can build on that performance this afternoon. He'll have no doubt learned plenty on that occasion and he was right up there as the leaders entered the final furlong, but he just ran out of gas when it mattered most.
Coral Racing Club stalwart, Jason Hart, is once again booked to ride Phoenix Of Dreams this afternoon which is great news. He's ridden on every occasion aside from two, so there's no jockey who will know Phoenix Of Dreams better and hopefully he can help him settle better in the earlier stages which should see him be able to see out the race with more left in the tank.

Phoenix Of Dreams faces eleven rivals this afternoon in what looks another very competitive affair. Reigning Profit and Dream Composer are both course and distance winners, with five of his other rivals winning previously over the five furlong trip. Veydari and The Good Biscuit have also both secured victories over six furlongs at Pontefract which gives them a big advantage of course form. Phoenix Of Dreams will break from stall four which is a decent enough draw, and it's likely that Jason Hart will try to take advantage of that and secure an early prominent position on the inside.

Racing TV Analyst, Chris Dixon, previews today's 17:08 contest at Pontefract
An inside draw looked a huge positive at Pontefract’s last meeting and with the rails on the same innermost line, I expect that to be the case again. From stall 4 Phoenix Of Dreams has a good start position and if his regular prominent pitch can be obtained he should be up to running well having turned in a solid effort at Haydock last time. That 6th of 14 finish came in a competitive race for the grade and the performance was backed up by a good time and Phoenix Of Dreams has since dropped 3lbs in the handicap.
Arnhem came home in front that day and though now 5lbs higher still looks on a good mark. He shaped well over a sharp 5f at Musselburgh last time and this track should suit better, though his draw is stall 9 could be an issue. The Good Biscuit is well drawn in stall 1 and is only 2lbs higher than when winning over 6f here earlier in the season so looks a leading contender alongside Veydari who is down to a decent mark and could be ideally suited by this stiff 5f. Lethal Nymph had an excuse last time but won at Doncaster before that and isn’t without a chance.
Trainer and Jockey Statistics
John & Sean Quinn are without success from their past 17 runners, however, they do have an eyecatching 40% win-rate at Pontefract so far this year from 10 runners.
Jason Hart has been in the winners' enclosure on four occasions in the past couple of weeks and he's a jockey who has a vast experience around Pontefract which is a real plus given it's undulating nature.
