Raceday LIVE Preview

Phoenix Of Dreams makes the journey to Southwell for the third time this year later today, as he looks to land his second win of 2026. It's been a year of steady progression so far for Phoenix Of Dreams, having placed twice before winning in early March at Newcastle. Since that victory he's ran a further two times, both in a harder grade of race, and he's had excuses on each occasion where he possibly should've finished much closes to the top three. Regular pilot, Jason Hart, who has guided Phoenix Of Dreams to both of his victories to date, will take the reins on handicap debutant Receipt in today's contest, so Oisin Orr is deputising in the saddle – marking his first ride in the Coral Racing Club silks.

Only seven go to post in this afternoon's contest at Southwell, with two of those having won previously over course and distance, Cill Mocheallog four starts ago and Dapper Gee Gee, two starts ago. Cill Mocheallog arrives in the best form in the field, having landed a second victory in four starts at Wolverhampton last time out, earning him a rise in the weights by 2lbs. Wish This steps back up in trip today after running over six furlongs in his last few outings, which included a win at Newcastle two starts ago, whilst the top two horses in the weights, Stoneywell and Receipt, as well as Shamacid arrive at Southwell as maidens.

Phoenix Of Dreams is drawn right in the centre of the stalls and will come out of gate four this afternoon, which should allow him to get an easy start in the contest without having to burn too much energy to get to the inside of the course at Southwell. The weather is set to be fair, but breezy this afternoon so racing conditions should be perfect.

Racing TV Analyst, Chris Dixon, breaks down this afternoon's contest at Southwell and gives us his opinion on how well Phoenix Of Dreams might run

Although he was ultimately well held at Newcastle last week, Phoenix Of Dreams looked like a horse who remains in good form in a race that didn’t get to the bottom of him having met trouble at a crucial stage. The positive of that is that he didn’t end up having a hard race and off what still looks a feasible mark he should be competitive in what looks a slightly weaker race. Tactically he should get a good position in behind what looks likely to be a fair but not overly strong pace.

The one to beat is Shamacid who is yet to win but hasn’t had many goes in handicaps and wasn’t beaten far at Kempton last time.

Trainer and Jockey Statistics

John & Sean Quinn have been in relatively quiet form recently, only having one winner in the last fortnight which came at Pontefract seven days ago. The father-son duo have a solid record at Southwell, with a strike-rate of 13% at the Nottinghamshire course which has been slightly buoyed by their three winners there so far this season.

Oisin Orr
has won on three of his last 25 rides (12% strike-rate) and heads to Southwell having had a day off on Sunday. His final ride on Sunday did produce a winner at Nottingham for Ed Bethell, so he arrives on a high following that performance. Despite not riding for the John & Sean Quinn team frequently, he has had a good record for them in those limited performances, coming away from six rides for the team with two victories, one of which came from two rides so far this season. His record at Southwell is also impressive, as he's posted 13 wins from 96 rides at the track in his career, with two of those coming from seven rides this season. Hopefully he can continue that stellar record this afternoon in his first ride for the Coral Racing Club.
