Rockstar Icon heads back to the course and distance of his sole career victory to date this afternoon, as he takes on Lingfield's seven furlong trip in the Class 6 Handicap at 16:10.

Rockstar Icon is set to make his second start in as many weeks today as he makes the trip to Lingfield as one of Oliver Cole's two runners. It wasn't to be for our gelding last time out, as he got caught out after an early battle for the lead of the race under experienced pilot, Hollie Doyle, which ultimately hampered his chances to finish the race as strongly as we would have liked. The draw of stall seven certainly didn't help, as the first bend comes very quickly at Wolverhampton and if you're too wide when you get there, it can be difficult to hold a prominent position.

In the week that's followed Rockstar Icon's run, and even prior to his last run, he's been impressing on the gallops. Oliver Cole remains happy with his fitness levels, as well as the general ability he's showing when putting in the work at home. Rockstar Icon's certainly not lacking in racecourse experience this season either, with 2025 being the busiest schedule he's had so far in his career as we head into his eighth contest of the year (vs five in 2024 and three in 2023).

The Oxfordshire-based trainer was keen to get him out again quickly after his last run, and opted to send him back to the familiar location of Lingfield, where he struck on New Year's Eve of 2023 as a two-year-old. His two previous runs over this track and trip have appeared to galvanise him somewhat, with the aforementioned victory being followed by a promising fourth place finish two starts later, off a mark of 78 (his second highest career handicap rating).

Today's contest isn't short of former winners, with every single runner coming into the race having been victorious at least once prior to today. Spirit Of Breeze is the only horse other than Rockstar Icon that's won over course and distance previously, having done so a week ago in an Apprentice race, for which he doesn't receive a penalty, or any adjustment to his handicap mark. There are five runners who have won over seven furlongs away from Lingfield in the past including King Of War, who comes into the race having won at Brighton twice in his last four runs and has gone up 9lbs in the weights in that time period. City Of York carries top weight in the contest, despite not having tasted success since September of 2023, when he was rated 10lbs higher than he is today.

"Rockstar Icon heads to Lingfield in good form this afternoon. He's been putting in some great work at home for the last few weeks, but hasn't quite been able to put that into practice on the course.
It's not an ideal draw out wide in stall 12, but we'll go forward with him and hopefully get a good position as we know he starts his races well.

Racing TV Analyst, Chris Dixon, gives his thoughts on Rockstar Icon's chances in this afternoon's 16:10 at Lingfield
Rockstar Icon is proving inconsistent but does have the ability to win races off his current mark when things click. A good run at Wolverhampton on his penultimate start shows he’s competitive when giving his running, even when finding the test inadequate, as it was over 6f that day. Things looked likely to be ideal next time when back up to 7f at the same track but he was below form having sat too close to a contested pace. The pace is again likely to be a strong one here and his draw in stall 12 looks a disadvantage so it’s hard to be overly optimistic about his chances given the set up of the race.
A good pace will suit the last time out course and distance winner Spirit Of Breeze and he looks the horse to beat off the same mark as last time (unpenalised for an apprentice race win) while City Of York is capable off his mark but needs to bounce back from a poor run. Ten Club looks ready to win and though drawn wide, may not be inconvenienced by it given his hold up style.

Oliver Cole landed a win at Newmarket last Friday, his second victory from ten runners in the last two weeks, as the volume of runners coming from his yard slows down with the turf season coming to an end. Rockstar Icon will be one of his first runners on the all-weather at Lingfield, along with Ray Mon Dough who runs earlier on the card.
Sean Levey is in solid form right now with five wins in the last fortnight, including a double at Southwell last Thursday. He's ridden three winners for the team at Whatcombe Stables, but has only had one ride since Oliver Cole became the sole license holder, finishing fourth. Of his 98 winners on the all-weather at Lingfield, three have come this year and he'll be looking to get to a century on today's card with three rides.
