Raceday LIVE Preview
Rockstar Icon returns to Wolverhampton this evening for the third time since the beginning of October as he prepares to run over the longest trip of his career so far. His performances throughout this year, and indeed his career, have been quite varying in terms of trip and so today is a bit of an experiment. He was a winner on just his third career start back on New Year's Eve in 2023 over seven furlongs, but since then he's failed to kick on in the way we'd have hoped. Although he's shown glimpses this year, he's been unable to put together a series of consistent results. His best efforts have been two fourth place finishes, one of which came on his first run of the year back in June which was over 1m½f, and a third place finish which came over 6f at Wolverhampton three starts ago.
Last time out Rockstar Icon finished well down the field at Lingfield, but jockey Sean Levey had some constructive words to say which trainer Oliver Cole took onboard. In his post-race interview, Sean said our four-year-old clearly has ability, however he just needs to be held onto for as long as possible and be given more time to travel into a race. Watch the video below to hear from Sean himself and see what else he had to say.

Rockstar Icon is certainly bred to take on longer distances with his sire, Sixties Icon, who was an eight time winner over distances between 1m2f and 1m6f in a stellar career that contained victories in four Group 3 races, one Group 2 and the St Leger. His dam was also a winner, albeit in a lowkey contest, over the marathon 2m trip, which really suggests that stamina should be in his arsenal as we move forward.
Rockstar Icon lines up in a full field of thirteen that go to post today and he has to shoulder top weight along with Galactic Glow as they are the two highest rated horses in the race. There are only two runners in the field who have been successful over today's distance, Tiberio Force, who won four starts ago, and My Brother Mike, who is a two-time winner over 1m1½f at Wolverhampton. Other recent winners in the race include Fifty Sent, who was a winner over a mile on the turf at Ffos Las in August and Al Shabab who scored over 1m2f on the all-weather at Lingfield.
Rockstar Icon is drawn relatively wide in stall nine, which could make things tough for him given the tight nature of the track at Wolverhampton. However, today's starting point is at the bottom end of the back straight, meaning the field will have plenty of time to find their spots on the run to the first turn, and that should help young jockey Jack Nicholls, who is having his first ride for the Coral Racing Club.

Pre-race update from trainer Oliver Cole
"Rockstar Icon heads to Wolverhampton for the 4:25, this time over 1 mile 1½ furlongs in a 0–55. He’s rated 55, so on paper he’s joint best horse in the race.
We haven’t been blessed with the draw in stall 9, but we won’t try to outrun it. The plan is simply to jump, tuck in where we can, get him switched off, and aim to finish strongly.
It’s his first run over this trip and we’re trying something different. We’ve also fitted cheekpieces to help him concentrate, so today should give us a clearer picture of what suits him."

Rockstar Icon has struggled to find consistency this season and though he had an excuse with a wide draw last time, the winner did come form the gate next to him and it was ultimately a bit of a disappointing run. The upside is the handicapper decided to give him a significant ease in the weights down to a mark of 55. That leaves him potentially very well treated and allows him to move into a lower grade race and he immediately drops into a 0-55 here which is easily the lowest level race he’s ever contested. Those factors mean there’s every chance he gets competitive, especially as he looks likely to be able to adopt a decent position just behind the pace.
Strobelight should have a solid chance after a strong of good efforts and he remains unexposed, while Fifty Sent lacks consistency but is capable of running up to his best, as is Al Shabab though he has a wide draw in 13.That scenario is much more reliable as he's better berthed in stall 1 and comes into the race in form.
Trainer and Jockey Statistics
Oliver Cole's yard has been quiet recently, with his only runner in the last fortnight coming home in fourth at Lingfield last Thursday. He's only had four runners at Wolverhampton since taking full ownership of Whatcombe's license, with one finishing second and two finishing third.
Jack Nicholls has 28 career wins to his name so far in his career, with 20 of those coming in 2025. The talented young Apprentice has had two winners from 24 rides at Wolverhampton, with both of those victories coming this season. Today will be the first time that the 19 year-old has ridden for Oliver Cole and he'll be looking to get off to a winning start to kick this evening's card off.
