12:55 Ascot – Star Of Affinity
It’s a quiet day for us numerically, but in terms of quality, both runners are horses I think a lot of and have high hopes for the rest of the season with. Star Of Affinity won really nicely at Exeter three weeks ago, and he came out of that race well. This looks an ideal race for him, he will enjoy the good ground, and although he’s up eight pounds for the Exeter win, he still gets in off a nice low weight here.
He's up in trip here, but I think that will be fine for him, and Caoilin Quinn is a talented youg conditional jockey who we’re delighted to have, with Fred [Gingell] riding for Paul Nicholls. He is up in grade here so there is a question mark as to how he will cope with that rise in class, but I'm confident he can run a nice race.
15:15 Ascot – Rightsotom
We’ve had Rightsotom with us for a year, but he’s been off since then as he had a slight stress fracture, which sounds worse than it actually is. The time off could well be a blessing in disguise, as juveniles can often struggle the following year. He’s grown, looks physically strong, and we’re very happy with how he is at home.
I think he’s well-handicapped off 126, but this is his first run for 18 months, we haven't taken him for an away day anywhere so all his work has been done at home. Naturally I would expect him to improve for the run, so if he can run well here for a long way, and then just got tired, I wouldn’t be too disappointed. He is certainly a horse to keep an eye on for the rest of the season.
