13:15 Ascot – Scarface
With Brendan [Powell] suspended, we’ve booked Sam Twiston-Davies for our two Ascot runners. The first of them, Scarface, missed the break at Newbury last time, he was just slowly away for some reason, and in the circumstances he ran a cracker to finish second.
He’s won over hurdles around here, this trip is right up his street, and I think he’s on a mark he can be really competitive off, so I’ll be disappointed if he’s not bang there, simple as that!
15:00 Ascot – The Changing Man
The Changing Man was another who ran a cracker to finish second on his last start, in the Rehearsal Chase at Newcastle. He came out of that race really well, and seems to be improving with every start over fences. It’s a £100,000 Ascot handicap, so it’s going to be competitive, but there are only eight runners, and I do think this fellow has one of these big races in him.
I think Sam’s style of riding will suit this horse, if they can get into a good rhythm early, we know he stays well, and again I’d like to think he won’t be far away.
