Joe Tizzard Weekend Preview: He's really blossomed at home and looks a million dollars

10 Feb 2024
Coral Racing Ambassador, Joe Tizzard, gives an exclusive preview of his three runners this weekend, including Amarillo Sky in the Grade 2 Game Spirit Chase at Newbury.

With Warwick off, we have just the two Saturday runners, both at Newbury, at a meeting we’ve always enjoyed having runners at, and one at Exeter on Sunday.

Saturday

14:40 Newbury – Amarillo Sky

Amarillo Sky also likes this course, having won here twice previously. Off for over a year with a tendon injury he picked up on his last run, at Cheltenham last January, I’m delighted to get him back on track.

He’s been back in work for a long time, doing plenty of steady work to start, and then we’ve ramped up the work in the last six weeks, but having been off for so long, he will improve for this comeback run. That said, I’d be confident he’s fit enough to run well here, it’s a trappy little race but he’s shown he goes well here, and he won’t mind the soft ground.

I’m really looking forward to running him, and hopefully we can make up for lost time and have a strong spring with him.

16:25 Newbury – U Cant Be Serious

U Cant Be Serious is a lovely big horse, and we’ve made the decision to keep him to bumpers this season. We stepped him up to listed class at Ascot last time, and he ran a cracking race to finish fifth at a big price.

He’s a big, strong horse so he’ll handle the ground, and while he’s a nice horse for now, I’d say he’s definitely a horse to watch in novice hurdles come the autumn.

Sunday

15:35 Exeter – The Big Breakaway

We’re keeping The Big Breakaway over hurdles again here, testing ground and the nature of the track should really suit him as hopefully they won’t go too fast, and he can get into a rhythm, get jumping, and start to enjoy himself again, as he had lost his way a bit over fences.

He’s really blossomed at home, and looks a million dollars, so we just want to get his confidence back, get his mind sorted really. This is a Pertemps qualifier so if he did finish in the first four that would give us an option at the Festival, while if we can get him back on song, the Midlands National at Uttoxeter on the Saturday after Cheltenham would be another option.

This is a big day for him as we just want to see him enjoy himself.
