Raceday LIVE Preview

Aspire To Glory was last seen winning at Kempton in the middle of December, staying on strongly under today's jockey, Tommie Jakes, to get up on the line to win by half a length. That victory came on the gelding's eighth run for the club, and his third effort over seven furlongs.

He was only put up two pounds for that victory, taking his mark up to 52. He rode with that handicap two starts ago, finishing 8th over a mile which proved to be a little bit too long at the time, and as such he's been switched back to the seven furlong trip since.

This is the first of three races that Alice Haynes had outlined for our newly turned three-year-old, and she believes it's very possible that we'll see him at least once more this month, either at Wolverhampton on the 20th or Kempton on the 24th.

The team at Machell Place were keen to get Aspire To Glory out again after his win at Kempton, as he has had a spring in his step at home since that victorious night at Kempton.

Raceday message from Alice Haynes

Aspire To Glory heads to Lingfield in pretty good form and we're looking forward to running him off the back of his Kempton win last month.

The slightly wide draw isn't an issue as we'll be riding him quietly enough, and although it's a sharper track than Kempton I would expect him to be going close again now that he's learned about getting his head in front. Tommie is on board again after getting a good tune out of him last time, and we'd be hopeful.

Prize money

Today's Class 6 contest is worth £5,700 in total, with the winner set to scoop £2,983 for their lucky owners.

2nd place: £1,400 | 3rd place: £699 | 4th place: £350 | 5th place: £174

As part of the Owner for the Day competitions we launch here on the Coral Racing Club website once one of the club's horses has been entered in a race, each of the 10 lucky winners who get the chance to attend as an owner also get to take home an equal 10% split of any prize money won.

Trainer and jockey form

Alice Haynes has been in incredible form this week, with three winners from the six runners she's sent out. All of those winners were ridden by Kieran O'Neill, including Cavallucio who won by a convincing four and a half lengths at Chelmsford yesterday.

Tommie Jakes retains the ride on Aspire To Glory today, after putting in an incredibly well timed ride onboard him last time out to get him up on the line. He's been in electrifying form in the last ten days, winning three races from nine rides and finishing second on two others. As an apprentice, he claims seven pounds off of our gelding's weight, which could prove to be valuable in the run in again.

Racing Post Spotlight comments on Aspire To Glory

Aspire To Glory came from behind for his last-time-out win, as did FALMOUTH BOY when he shaped well on his handicap debut.

Hooded for 7f Kempton win last time, coming from the rear under Tommie Jakes; back up 2lb

Today's opposition

  • Falmouth Boy made an impression on his handicap debut last time out. Despite finishing four and a half lengths back in seventh place, he caught the eye when running on well, despite never having a clear run in the closing stages.
  • Birkie Boy is the only winner, other than Aspire To Glory, in the field. He won at Brighton three starts ago under apprentice Olivia Tubb, and she takes the reins again today, taking seven pounds off his back.
  • Gone Like The Wind came back from a near five month layoff eleven days ago when making her handicap debut. She didn't finish an awfully long way back in sixth of ten, and could build on that performance today.
