Raceday Preview
Hey Day Baby was in the process of putting in a nice performance on her hurdles debut at Exeter in April, pressing the eventual winner all the way around the home turn before fading back through the field in the final straight. After the race we found out that she'd picked up a knock towards the end of the race which is why jockey Jonjo O'Neill Jnr simply allowed her to come home in her own time which is why she finished down the field.
She's been recovering since and has been working well at home, with trainer Jonjo O'Neill stating in his most recent update that she's as fit as the team could want her after the break she's had.
There are some interesting contenders in the field today, with top trainers Nicky Henderson, Nigel Twiston-Davies and Fergal O'Brien all being represented, so it by no means will be an easy race for Hey Day Baby and we're sure she'll learn plenty to take into her next start for the club.
We're delighted to have jockey Jonjo O'Neill Jr partner her again having taken the reins on both of her racecourse appearances prior to today. He arrives at Worcester this afternoon with 10 winners to his name so far this season, with two of them being at this track which is a positive note.
Racing Post Verdict
Those with hurdling form do not set an exacting standard and debutante LIGHTFOOT LADY could well prove good enough, despite her absence. Manimole is consistent and may be next best, although better can be expected from Hey Day Baby if a tongue-strap works. [Jonathan Neesom]
