"Mammoth effort" to move Southwell-based horses to Wolverhampton – latest from Scott Dixon

Conservative

Last week was one of the most challenging times in my training career.

As you may have seen if you have been following the latest racing news, Southwell Racecourse and my stables at the course were flooded over the weekend. It meant on Saturday, my team had to transport all of our horses, including Conservative, to my Wolverhampton training yard.

It was a mammoth effort from everybody involved in my team, racecourse staff and some local volunteers, to move all 40 horses. This was done with care and efficiency, as the flooding was getting worse by the hour.

Unlike some trainers, I am very fortunate that I had the space in my Wolverhampton yard to accommodate my horses. Conservative and the rest of my horses have settled in well and they are still able to train as they would at Southwell.

Conservative has responded well to the treatment he has been having over the last seven days. We are slowly increasing his exercising and we should have a clearer time frame next week as to when he will be able to appear again in a race. I am also hoping things will dry out at Southwell by then and we can begin the drying up process.

The change in scenery at Wolverhampton should do Conservative good. It may even feel like a holiday for him!
