Jonjo O'Neill disappointed to not see a better performance from Hey Day Baby at Worcester
We were a little bit disappointed with Hey Day Baby’s Worcester run, she’d worked really well in the tongue strap at home so had hoped it would help her in the race.
Unfortunately that wasn’t the case and she just weakened a long way out. Because nothing obvious came to light after the race to explain the performance we sent her to the vet’s to be scoped, which is where a camera is inserted through a horse’s nostril while the horse gallops to allow a visual examination of their breathing, but this too failed to show up any problems.
Since the Worcester run and the scope, we’ve just been swimming her at home rather than working her on the gallops, outwardly she seems fine, so at the moment she’s a bit of a mystery to us.
She wouldn’t be the first horse to not translate her homework to the course, but we’ll keep an eye on her and let you all know what the next step will be.
