WATCH: Phoenix Of Dreams declared to step back up in trip at Chester
Following a hat-trick of second place finishes, Phoenix Of Dreams will be looking to go one better when stepping back up in trip to seven furlongs, having run over six furlongs at Southwell last time out. The team at Highfield Stables have been impressed with our gelding's work at home recently, and have booked regular partner Jason Hart to ride him again this week, giving Phoenix Of Dreams the best possible chance of success by capitalising on the relationship that the two have already.
Sean Quinn said this just after declaring Phoenix Of Dreams this morning
"I’m delighted that Phoenix Of Dreams has got into the Chester race, and I’m really looking forward to running him. I think the sharp 7f around Chester will be perfect, and I’m really happy with the draw we have in stall 7. As everybody knows, you don’t want to be too wide at Chester, and on testing ground there, you probably don’t want to be right on the rail either, so stall 7 is a nice place to be. The ground is currently soft, but there is more rain forecast over the coming days, so the ground could be heavy by Friday afternoon. That would be a bit of an unknown for him, but his action suggests he should handle proper heavy ground, so I don’t think it will be too much of an issue for him.
It’s a competitive race, and the Irish horse Mercurial could be the one to beat as he has plenty of form on testing ground in Ireland, but Phoenix has been in really good form at home of late, and he always runs his race, so I think he goes there with a really solid chance. As we know, you do need a lot of luck at Chester, but providing he gets that bit of luck, he’s certainly capable of finally getting his head in front.
We are going to pop him in a race at Redcar next week too just in case there is a proper downpour at Chester and the meeting is abandoned, but hopefully everything will go to plan, and we can look forward to running him on Friday afternoon."
