Runner Round Up: Diamond Days shines at Lingfield whilst All The Glory puts in a brave display at Musselburgh – plus Cast No Shadow & Cave Article latest efforts
The busy 24 hours started on Friday at Newcastle for their 14:28 contest as Cast No Shadow went back to his favourite venue to take on the 5f trip for the eighth time in his career.
His run prior to Friday's contest was promising as he bounced back to finish in third place, with the first time visor seeming to liven him up and draw some improvement from our Hugo Palmer-trained gelding. With that in mind, Hugo Palmer opted to change up the headgear once more and put him in blinkers for the first time, to see if it would help eek out some more improvement.

As he often does, Cast No Shadow broke well from the gates under jockey Cieren Fallon, and as the pair went through the opening couple of furlongs they seemed to be travelling well. However, as they went past half way, Cieren began to ask Cast No Shadow for more and although he did respond, he was unable to sustain his efforts into the closing stages of the race. As they entered the final furlong, Cast No Shadow weakened through the field and eventually came home in 8th place.

Next up was Cave Article who made the long trip from South Wales to Catterick for trainer Christian Williams.
Our promising six-year-old chaser was coming into the contest off the back of an impressive win at Sedgefield on just his second start over fences, but there was a slight concern from Christian on how Cave Article would handle the ground with the rain that had hit the track in recent days. Despite the concern, Cave Article as well supported before the race, and ended up being sent off the 15/8 favourite for the three mile contest.
The market support looked to be well justified for the majority of the race, as Cave Article's jumping was flawless all the way round and he was travelling very well towards the end of the trip. However, after jumping two out and taking up the lead, Cave faced stiff competition from the 12-year-old veteran The Paddy Pie and Baby Chou all the way to the finish line, and when push came to shove in the final furlong, it was The Paddy Pie who managed to find more in the tank to clinch the win. Baby Chou also managed to stay on strongly to snatch second from Cave Article.

Diamond Days was the Club's final runner on Friday, as he headed to Lingfield for his handicap debut over hurdles.

Off a mark of 90, the thought was that he'd fare better in handicap company, as opposed to the novice hurdle contests he'd been competing in since making his debut back in October. The plan pre-race was for Brendan to give Diamond Days some cover and to gradually ease him into the race as it progressed, and that's exactly what Brendan Powell [jockey] did. Despite making a few jumping errors on the way round, Diamond Days was still travelling strongly, and as some of the field started to weaken, he began to pick them off one by one after they turned into the home straight.
As they approached the final hurdle, it appeared to be between Diamond Days and Just Aidan, but after the pair jumped the last almost together, it was the Harriet Dicked-trained runner who picked up when it mattered most before going on to win by five lengths. Diamond Days still finished a fantastic second place on his handicap debut, and was well clear of the bunch in behind.

All The Glory was stepping back down into handicap company following her Grade 2 effort at Ascot a fortnight ago, and she was the top weighted horse in the race whilst being the highest rated (135). Benjamin Macey, who has won on her twice before, was back onboard at a track that the pair won at earlier in the season.
It was another style of performance that we expect from All The Glory these days, as she was held up in midfield for much of the race before being let loose in the closing stages, where she made up plenty of ground and grinded all the way to the line to claim third place.
That effort landed her 10 lucky owners for the day almost £3,000 in prize money, and that took the winnings for the entire weekend to over £5,000 after Cave Article's and Diamond Days' top three finishes on Friday.

She came out of the race okay, but did sustain a minor cut on her front leg during the race, which will require a course of antibiotics as well as a little bit of rest to fully fix. Thankfully, this isn't too big of a set back and shouldn't interfere with her plans for the rest of the season.
