Raceday LIVE Preview

It's an exciting day for the Coral Racing Club, as for the first time we have a runner in a Graded contest with All The Glory featuring at Ascot in the Grade 2 Warfield Mares' Hurdle.

It won't however be the first time that the horse has lined up in Grade 2 company, as she's competed in two races at this level before. Her first run in a Grade 2 race came in the Mares' Bumper at the Grand National Meeting in 2022, where she finished sixth of 20 runners having been sent off a 100/1 outsider. Interestingly however, on that day she finished close behind Kateira, trained by Dan Skelton, who has since won a Listed and Grade 3 contest.

The next time she lined up at this level was at Newbury in March of last year, where she won comfortably with today's jockey, Jonjo O'Neill Jnr, in the saddle. One of her rivals today, Ooh Betty, also ran in that race, finishing over 12 lengths behind All The Glory in third place and unable to lay a glove on her in the closing stages of the race.

Following that race she struggled to continue the progression in her next three efforts between May and July, firstly coming down in a Grade 3 at Haydock before two low key runs at Market Rasen where she finished 5th and 6th.

All The Glory returned in November with another below par performance following an extended break, however she soon reappeared at Musselburgh 20 days later where she began her resurgence. She travelled incredibly well under 10lb claimed Benjamin Macey and after being held up for the most part of race, she cosily picked off the field one by one and went on to win by two and a quarter lengths.

All The Glory takes flight en route to latest emphatic Southwell victory

That was her final race before joining the Coral Racing Club, and Jonjo & A J O'Neill didn't waste any time in finding her a debut race donning our blue and white silks, as she travelled to Southwell for a Class 3 contest on New Year's Day. It was another incredibly impressive run from our mare on that day, as she coped with the 8lb handicap rise with ease and she put in another performance akin to her previous run at Musselburgh with Ben Macey once again in the saddle.

Jonjo & A J O'Neill changed their plans for our mare following that run, as she was running to qualify for a corresponding Mares' Hurdle Final at Cheltenham in April. However, after her stylish victory at Southwell, they rerouted and decided to shoot for the stars and entered her in today's Grade 2 contest at Ascot, whilst also giving her an entry in the Grade 1 Mares' Hurdle at the Cheltenham Festival.

Today's race is set to be a tough contest for All The Glory, as the horse that currently towards the top of the betting for the Mares' Hurdle in March, Kargese, has been sent over from Closutton by Willie Mullins. Last season's Champion Trainer must believe that this presents the best opportunity for his mare to get on the board for the first time this year and the mare, who chased home Sir Gino and Majborough in her only two losses in the last 12 months, is certainly deserving of her short price favouritism.

The ground is currently reported to be Good To Soft, which should suit All The Glory and the galloping track at Ascot is also likely to play to her advantage.

All The Glory has been in the form of her life the last twice recording back-to-back career-best performances with a brace of wins at Musselburgh and Southwell. The hallmark of those handicap victories has been the way All The Glory has powered smoothly through the race before cosily picking up to win tidily, and with her mark now up to 135 she’s well worth a crack at this level. On official ratings she has 6lbs to find with the early odds-on favourite, Kargese, and though those ratings perhaps don’t tell the full story, with Kargese likely to rate higher in time, the Mullins mare does have a small penalty to carry and on the adjusted figures, All The Glory doesn’t have a huge amount to find. Having produced her form on varying ground and in different tempo races (Musselburgh was well run, Southwell was steadily run) All The Glory seems very versatile and is clearly thriving so a good run could be on the cards.

Whether it’s enough to come home in front at the expense of Kargese is debatable given the depth of form she has produced, including a brace of Grade 1 Juvenile Hurdle wins, plus two runner-up finishes in that division behind a pair of horses, Majborough and Sir Gino, who look particularly smart. It’s not a given that Kargese will be on her A-game for this seasonal return, but given there’s potential for further progress she does look the one to beat.

Take No Chances ran right up to her best when third in a mares handicap at Cheltenham last time and is probably worth marking up given she was held up in a steadily run race. She’s previously won in Listed company and may have more to offer, while Casa No Mento, a Listed winner over hurdles, is back over smaller obstacles after trying fences last time and has an each-way chance. Ooh Betty was second to the Dawn Run Mares’ Novices’ Hurdle winner Golden Ace last April and has since gone on to win a couple of handicaps, including at Kempton last time and is another improver in what looks a fairly competitive race.

In summary, this is a step up for All The Glory and she’s taking on some progressive types with strong form, but she is also improving and in the form of her life and is well worth a shot at this Grade 2 prize.

Trainer and Jockey Statistics

Jonjo & A J O'Neill have been relatively quiet in recent weeks, having only sent out 9 runners in the last fortnight, however two of those have landed the spoils including Hasthing who won well just yesterday at Windsor. Overall the father-son duo have been in top form over the past few months, recording 30 winners since the start of November.

Jonjo O'Neill Jnr has only had three rides in the past week, however one of those was onboard the aforementioned recent winner Hasthing. In the last five seasons, Jonjo has won five times in the saddle around Ascot, along with an additional 16 top three finishes. The young jockey will certainly be hoping he can rack up a good run of form over the next few weeks as we creep ever closer to the Cheltenham Festival.
